I have the opposite concern about one-trick ponies: there are certain things I enjoy drawing very often (it's probably a symptom of my autistic tendency towards obsessiveness), but I'm scared that eventually people will tire of my favorite subject matter and demand that I draw something different. In my case, I worry that being a one-trick pony will hurt rather than help my popularity.

Yeah, considering how much paintings sell for when certain artists meet their demise - Get what you can because you may not see that kind of money after you die for your work of course

Is that really an ethical question? I'd guess that lots of people in the world do things for money that they probably wouldn't do for fun--with a clear conscience.

I seem to remember a Beerbohm story where either an artist or writer faked their death to generate sales... (or was it someone else...) Damn, I wish I could remember now.
