The Avengers

Just came back from seeing the Avengers in 3d. I have to say Joss Whedon hit it out of the park. What makes him so good as a writer and director is his dialogue and pacing. He understands timing so well, always getting the maximum from each scene. His dialog establishes the characters and makes you care about them and he respects the source material delivering to the fans what they want. The best super hero movie to date.

Loved it! Best comic book movie yet. Dark Knight is better, but that's less of a comic booky movie to me.

Yeah, Batman is supposed to be more 'crime noir' than comic book/superhero. I think that's why Nolan has been successful, because he brought the Batman movies back to the appropriate genre.

Avengers is like a different genre entirely, over-the-top superhero comic book fun. And it was entertaining in that respect, I think mostly because it didn't take itself too seriously. Being tongue-in-cheek and willing to poke fun at itself was why Thor was a more entertaining movie than Captain America for example. Though Iron Man was the best of the origin movies.

I agree w/ Dpaint that Whedon was the right dude to helm this thing. He knows what notes to hit and when, and also how to handle multiple lead characters. I'm surprised he wasn't being offered Avengers type gigs after Serenity.

If marvel has its way it will be multiple sequels of varying quality and characters and then a reboot to the franchise to pull a younger crowd in.

Yeah it broke box office records for biggest opening (too bad Kirby's estate isn't going to see a dime of it) but the second place movie only got 8 million.

I always thought the avengers were corny as hell. But when the word of mouth is 90% positive it's worth the money. I guess I'm gonna have to check it out.

It is corny. Its just well made corny. Joss Whedon took what he had to work with and made a great movie with it. Its not Schindler's List. Comic book movies are inherently silly by their very nature, including Dark Knight. If you aren't down with that save your money 'cause its never going to be anything else.

I saw it about a week ago and I have to say I'm kinda itching to see it again.
Funnier than I expected and I was pleasantly surprised by the Hulk too, after that horrible business with the Ed Norton film.

Definitely one of the most enjoyable films I've seen this year.

Not sure what you mean by that? The fact he was gone or the Norton one was a mess? Because, I found the Norton film enjoyable but the previous Bama one a mess.

Yeah I wrote it kinda weird. Don't get me wrong I like Ed Norton and I enjoyed The Incredible Hulk too.
I meant the way he was dropped by Marvel wasn't the most pleasant, and I was expecting Hulk's portrayal to be awkward because of it, not sure why.

But god yeah, not sure what was going on with the Bana one, not as bad as I had read it was (by a marginal amount, mind you) but still....just...no...

I don't mind movies where you get to leave your brain at home, but there is a thin line between leave your brain at home and leave your dignity at home. It's the difference between Indiana Jones #3 and Indie Jones #4. Joss Wheadon is the kind of guy to know the difference.

I had pretty low expectations going in, even if I do love Joss Whendon, and I have to say I came out having really enjoying the movie. Was it a masterpiece-- not really, but then, how could it be? Having said that, it was still a heck of a lot of fun.

More likely there will be a Mega Crossover with ten different films all in one summer and you have to see them all or you won't know what the hell's going on. i.e. Secret Wars, Infinity Gauntlet, Civil War, etc. As long as they don't do Atlantis Attacks....

I don't know if it's my favorite movie. But I'll say this; Avengers was the coolest movie I have ever seen.

When I was watching it I honestly felt like the people who would describe Star Wars for the first time back in the 70's and continue to talk about it for decades. I don't know if it will be like that, but you better believe I'll be talking about it forever! lol

I just got back from watching it and enjoyed it. Didn't feel like 2 1/2 hours. And yes I even watched all the way through the credits (and I meal ALL the credits)

I saw it on Imax 3D (because non 3d wasn't available) I have to say the 3D wasn't really worth it. The movie itself was. Plus I hate having to put on glasses over glasses...it's annoying.

I've never been a fan of Comic book movies (I hate corny stuff and they're chalk-full of it!), I did however enjoy the couple of Batman movies Nolan directed. Those weren't too shabby. I'll wait until this one goes on DvD to see if it's something I'd enjoy.

Don't Deadly. I'm a guy who hates everything. I'm that jerk in the back with his head in his palm at every scene. This movie was VERY fun. Ironman and the Hulk stole the show imo. I mean really, Iron man was done so well in this movie. Just watching him move and interact was a real treat. I'm not sure what type of tv system you have but this experience deserves the best. Half the movie I had a smile on my face, and the other half I was clenching my palms together. Don't wait or you'll wish you hadn't.

I feel pretty much the same way. There was a scene the Hulk that got me as good as when Indiana Jones shot that guy with the sword in Raiders. It may be the single greatest few seconds of film ever put on the big screen.

Ha that WAS a tonne of fun!
If I was 12 this would instantly have become my favourite movie ever.
PLus a cameo from an old favourite.
I was impressed how they got so many people on screen and didnt leave anyone out (except padme)
I might go see it again less drunk and with my glasses to I can understand what the hells going on.
