My own little space (sketchbook, studies, etc)

    Hello my dear fellow artists,

First off: I’ve been lurking this forum for a few months, and I’ve got to say: you’re all so talented, like WOW. Now I thought it was time to display some of my own, well ahum, drawings (can’t call them art lol), and hopefully learn a bunch on my stay here. Erhm, first allow me to introduce myself hehe: my name is Milou (20 years old and new here) and as a kid I fell in love with drawing. Ever since I’ve kept drawing and eventually moved over to digital art. Right now I feel like I really want to raise the bar higher and I might even apply for some artschools or rather: I really want to get into some great artschool. I’m determined to draw everyday (traditional and digital) and get better, loads better!! And I really would like for you to join me on this journey to find my path as an artist. I could really use the support! I’ll start with the basics first, and I’m curious as to what you think about my progress, so please be harsh in your critics; because after all: you can only learn it the hard way. But guys let me warn you: I’m an absolute rookie, and I’m very insecure about my drawing skills, so that probably shows.
Ok, enough excuses, I’ll start by showing some sketches I did in the past two days, so be brutally honest with me, because yeah at the moment I kinda suck compared to you awesome guys xD! I’ll (try to) post new stuff everyday!

When I look at these sketches I think my proportions are very off, as are the values. I always struggle with the Zygomatic bone and jaw area, it just always ends up being weird. I also think my shading technique is very bad and my sense of 3d for the skull is dreadful. But I would love to hear what you think I should work on first :-). Thanks a lot!

This first portrait is killer, I love the lips and the overall expression!
I think that the main thing that you need to work on (and that's also my case) is basicly what you wrote down on the first portrait : patience. Don't rush, go slowly, start with soft tones and the most important, constantly observe. Good luck!

Thank you Flowdat! Very true, I really need to work on my patience. I always start with the utmost patience, but then it kind of 'flows' away and I want to finish it as fast as possible. Today it's my birthday, so the perfect time to draw hehe. Will post tonight some new stuff :-). Thanks again!

I'm really bad, already posting my update way too late! I'm so sorry guys! Here are some sketches I did yesterday, I also did some Loomis studies, but I couldn't post them because I did them with an H pencil and I couldn't get them on camera unfortunately.
