    feeling a bit uninspired, so I'll go with something simple, this is the starting war walker.

    Not sure my entry is going to make it in time, but I thought I'd post a WIP, just in case it helps inspire someone. I scrapped my earlier design and went with a walker designed for long-range artillery, which could convert to tank-busting duty if the enemy got behind the front lines.

    For the peacetime conversion, I intended to have a family of apple farmers using it as a mobile apple-picking platform, with the kids in seats on the ends of the cannons plucking fruit as dad drives it between the rows.

    We'll see what I can manage before time runs out!

    (model built in AC3D, rendered in Messiah, and I've just started painting details over it in Photoshop).

    Looking great everyone!

    I'm close to finishing up, spent yesterday working on the back ground, which i could use some input on. I like it, i've just been working on this thing so long i'm going blind to it lol. I still need to fix some perspective on the ship, and finish a few parts, add some color and try and undetail it some here and there.

    Anyway, thanks for the support, and C+C welcome plz!

    Ps- the basic change to the walker is that it is being stripped of all its heavy armor and weapons, and from that material, new housing and hospitals are being built on the ship and around the world. The amount of steel used to build this ship is mind boggling. But i'm making this an all inclusive image, the orthographics show the ship before the armor was striped, so i'm killing to birds with on stone there. I've spent so much time learning to paint with this, i just need to get it done. Its going to be the flag ship of their medical and reconstruction fleet, or somethin' like that.
    WIP-

    SnailsPace: I like the overall presentation. Quite solid.

    Problems though:
    1) It looks like a Star Destroyer from Starwars. Since it's such a well-known franchise, it's a good idea to avoid associations, as it can hardly be your goal to make everybody think of a Starwars spaceship with legs.

    2) Four legs, with such a gigantic machine, that is supposed to carry sick people - it would be a terribly shaky ride. What happens when one leg is lifted off the ground? how could it remain stable? It would have to shift its weight - which would result in huge shifts.

    3) The surface of the feet is way to small. Imagine all that tremendous weight focused on those four small feet! It would sink into the ground.

    Things to consider.

    Dragon4lunch Valid points, thanks a million for the crit! The star destroyer thing is a bit complicated i think, considering how much they look like aircraft carriers, and vice versa. But I hear you, and will look for ways to minimize that as i finish up and color.

    Some of this I'll have to BS with the story, but this thing doesn't walk much, it relies on a "Philadelphia experiment" type teleportation system to move the ship around the world. From there it does have to walk to reposition itself if need be. Its meant to be more of a mobile base, the center hub, once positioned it doesn't move again, until it leaves the area completely.

    Now as far as design mistakes, you are right on the money, and I thank you, I will try and keep what you said in mind going forward. Thanks again!

    I thought it was "Repurposed"? What the hell is prepurposed haha? I would hope all robots were designed with a purpose in mind.

    Anyways, I had this on my list of tasks, but I only made a sketch a couple of days ago. I won't be able to finish anything but I will work on it today just for fun to throw in a WIP.

    Velocity, I love that gold throne vehicle, extremely stylish!

    I obviously won't make it. Here is a sketch though:

    Fun topic can't resist doing a sketch.

    @Pavel Sokov
    Looks very interesting. Hope you finish.
    @Adriannarosky
    Nice idea. Also like the insectoid design. A detail in bright sunlight the cast shadows under objects use to be sharp. I also think you could clarify the eliptical object a bit. I suppose its a parable mirror.
    @SnailsPlace
    I think you have got the majestic feeling. Impressing. I can agree with dragon4lunch. But I think many science fiction creations have similar practical issues.
    @Grumbleputty
    Nice walker. Looking forward to se the apple pickers.
    @invinciblewombat
    The idea come through fine.
    @fireblades
    I like the walker. looks like military machine. Some personal opinions. I would make the front barrel smaller. It also feels to have more mass at the side towards the viewer. I would show some of the part fastening the legs on the other side.
    @Velocity Kendall
    Very cool. Looking forward to se it finished.
    @absorber
    Good idea with the gardening robot. I also like the design and the composition. At this point i think you can put some attention to the plant since they became kind of a focal point.
    @Toshi666
    nice walker designs.
    @themonet
    Coming good. In my opinion I think you can have the background quiet simple not to busy since the walker is the main object.
    @Legato
    Creative designs. Hard to pick a favorite. I like the Idea of a giant war machine wondering the landscape years after the war.Perhaps a bit hard to get it through in a picture. Maybe a old rusty machine and people o seem to not care about it.
    @kloakatriposa
    I like the composition and the idea shows. At this point i think you can render it out more. Its very busy.
    @Si_Swe
    Nice idea and design. It will bee very cool if you render it out.
    @Rob Powell
    First is my favorite.

    Seriously, you guys should know by now that I am completely incapable of going more than one round without a typo of one sort or another. *sigh*

    Finals thread will be up in 20 minutes or so! On that note, how many of you would like an extension? We have had a month but it would be a shame not to get the best out of you guys when a special IDW only happens every 2 years or so. That being said, there will only be an extension if I have a promise from you guys that you'll submit something! There is absolutely nothing more pathetic than a special round with 2, or god forbid 1 entry.

    Awesome round! Here's my final mech design. The war mech and orthogonal drawing would be come in a couple hours.

    It's a combat mech which was re-purposed to be a construction mech.

    1 Week extension!!! Awesome!!! So I wasn't liking my last one, so I decided to scrap the robot completely and basically start over. Here is my linework and basic beginnings of renderings for the robot 2.0.

    Let's go everybody! Keep up the good work! Getting close on the robot. I want to do some detail work, for evidence of the war it was in, blast spots, etc. I'm thinking the scale on the girl and the flowers might be a little too small. What do you guys think?

    @ Gunsbis: Looking awesome! I might try and put a little context into your background somehow. I understand that it is a construction walker because of the familiar yellow paintjob. But what else besides yellow could tell the story? Even just like some little sketches of cement trucks or construction site in the background might help. KILLER rendering detail for sure!

    @ Sevira: cool start. I like the calvin and hobbes feel to the treehouse at the top.

    @ Pavel_Sokov: Interesting look to your walker. What's the story behind it's peactime conversion? Is it a couier? It looks fast.

    @ JanJager: Awesome start as always. Now that you have more time you should finish it!

    @ Adrian Nagorski: Good start. The greenhouse walls are a little off perspective. You have some diverging lines there.

    @ SnailsPace : I think you're the only one here who's NOT moving at a snails pace. I love all the detail on your walker underbody. I like the context in your background (flags and buildings for scale and such), but I might tone down the wireframes and blue background a little. They are a little distracting. I think they actually detract from the Massive feeling you have achieved in your rendering.

    @ GrumblePutty : I like the peacetime story. I'd love to see an update of how the final is going.

    @ Invinciblewombat : Cool idea. the walker reminds me of those creepy dog robot videos that came out a number of years ago.

    @ Fireblade : I like the tallness of your walker. I want to see an ewok village hiding in the shade hanging from its belly. . The front gun seems a little out of perspective from the rest of the walker.

    @ Velocity Kendall : The horse ones running through the city are cool. I love how original all your stuff always is. Keep it up.

    Great entry Guns!

    Here's my update. I'm very glad we have this week extension because I'm painting in a very insufficient way.. It takes ages to paint everything with a regular brush.. But it's a good practice so I'll keep doing it this round.

    All crit's are welcome

    EDIT: another update, replaced with the old.
    Although I think it turned more into an environment.. I need to work more on my design because the walker is quite ugly..

    Finally getting some work done on my apple-picking conversion- still a long way to go, especially to get close to the quality of everyone else's entries.

    There's still a bunch of baskets for apples, tree-pruning gear and ladders I need to add, as well as another kid or two riding on the ends of the gun barrels. And then there's the issue of the isometric views of the original combat version!
