E.O.W Round #185: At the Banks of the Glowing River

E.O.W Round #185: At the Banks of the Glowing River

TOPIC = At the Banks of the Glowing River
    suggested by albino-Z

    Brief:

There is something enchanting about this place, whether it's source of illumination is magical, spiritual, technologically produced - or perhaps it is a creation of nature itself.

Not really a brief with guidelines to follow, just some thoughts.

Ooh, this is a really open topic, and has given me just the right inspiration nudge to get an image I've wanted to do for a while done.

Oy, some gorgeous pieces in here already! Corrick your piece is lovely, I love the fact it's not just an environment, there's a sense of story too. Lurvely stuff.

Here's my first offering, just a really rough start to try and pin colours and overall layout.

This is my first attempt at E.O.W, feeling pretty weak compared to the awesome stuff in this thread!

Got two rough versions of the same idea right now, not sure which one to go with yet.

First time. I've been following the work for sometime and thought I must just man up and enter something.

I normally work with the figure so landscapes are a totally new thing for me. About 8 weeks ago I started several landscape oil paintings and taking ideas to digital.

The first is the most developed - I've gone in with several layers of colors (love exploring indirect painting, just laying up and seeing what comes out).

The others are ideas on composition... I may work these up further.

update - I put some color on it. . .
I have no clue yet about all these photoshop tools and tricks and textures and such, so for me it's just the round brush all the way!

    Any thoughts?

Lovely work so far, many of these are simply outstanding. Thank you for the comments. Here's the final...

Every year at spring the people come to the river, each lighting a lantern in prayer. They say the first lantern taken by the water spirit is the first prayer to be answered, but that's silly... everyone knows they're answered all at once.

Alex.Zelenski: thanks for pointing that out
I was too lazy to use construction lines so perspective is just eyeballed.
Thanks to you I decided to add perspective lines to see what happened.
This is the result. Not too bad, but a little off, particularly in the distance.
I had to broaden the image to get the perspective lines to the left on the horizon - maybe this broader composition is better? I don't know.

Argh! Wrote comments/crits on everyones work and now its all gone! *#$#@!!
