    Totemiks sketchbook

    Hey everybody!
so i decided to have a go at this. i really hope to progress (and to purchase that wacom tablet). for now its pencil and ink.
i'm from portugal, lisbon, living in poland for the last 5 years with my kids and girlfriend. almost 30 years old now, last years passed in a zip! i've lost loads of momentum, but hopefully, with your help and the weekly activities, i'll manage to push my limits and set the bar higher.
tell me what you think! thx

    a treefolk study.
the second one is a study for chow: six-legged albino speedster. it supposed to run at speeds exceeding 100 mph. the front pair of legs are used for steering and stabilizing.

Those are some fairly cool designs/creature that you have there.
For the ones that are more human in appearance (the mermaid creature), abit more reference / closer to human form, would make them alot more convincing, realistic and therefore creepy..... IMO.

Anyway, some cool stuff. Love to see more.

heya! thanks for the feedback and advice. the mermaid is lacking volume and is looking too cartoony (especially hands), its not finished at all, i agree. anyway, i have lots of weak areas i hope to improve in. been doing lots of 1min body sketches the last few days with the help of posemaniacs.com . i will be posting some tommorrow. thanks again, and visit often!

    Hi,

I love your ideas!! Where do you get your inspiration from? I wish I could create fantasy, creepy creatures like that too. I heard you can mix different parts of different animals using reference to create some new sort of monster. I find this very hard. I will probably try it soon though.
I will just check back here every then and now too get inspired and maybe grab some tips

Thanks for your posts, they're helping!!

hey man! thanks for the positive comments. i draw my inspiration mostly from nature, comics, movies, emotions.... but mostly from nature, i just love to marvel at the perfection of creation, the perfection f the living globe that supports us.

so here is one more sketch for now. the lego raw-jaw (hero factory) toy posed for it.

and i noticed on a friends monitor that the sketches i posted earlier look terribly shabby with photoshop eraser marks all over the place. so i'll be cleaning those up, i just learned how to do it properly.

also, i played around with smudge yesterday, nice tool! im so inexperienced in PS...lol. So i had fun. managed to play with it with a mouse, and the effect is really nice...at least i think so. thx everbody, will be posting some more later. by the way the smudged image is the demon from first post.

really cool work!! I wouldn't recommend using the smudge tool too much, it makes you painting get blurry. And that's propably the opposite of what you'd like to achieve. It can be handy for clouds or water though I think. Especially if you arent much experienced at that parts.

Now that you mention it, I see the eraser marks too ^^ I didnt notice before anyways, because they weren't influencing the sketch really much. I had the same problem with my old monitor, when I switched to a new one, I was shocked how much faults there were in the images

Drawing from nature is a good plan, I wish I could draw animals better xD Maybe I'll give it a try soon. Keep going

the way you convert shadows and texture into interesting patterns.. I love it!! I think you need great observation skill for that. You have good ideas too!!
Well, some standart critics: the head is a bit out of propotions
maybe try using fewer lines, especially at the last one

an illustration sketch. the girl in the center has dreads in her hair and she's looking downward. i think her head might be confusing to understand. she's got pointy ears coming out the side. color would help this image, as well as hair texture on the head.

this is a pencil drawing cleaned up and worked on a bit with photoshop. its a concept for this weeks cow. im shy to coloring, should get to it soon...
anyway, i see my first posts still look like *crap*, with the eraser marks all over. sry for that.
im in the process of cleaning those pics up, and i will probably start the sketchbook anew. i just dont like the way its layed out...so...i think i will change that.
so, thanks all for your feedback. c ya soon.

looking pretty good man. You could probably bump up the contrast a little bit, but looks solid.
