    Adam Burnier Sketchbook

My progress for COW # 250. It's my first time participating and I would love to hear people's thoughts. The concept is a water elemental with bio-luminescent liquid tendrils trailing behind it.

    Looks pretty good to me.
Creature have proper anatomy, pose works really good either, you can easily imagine how the creature is moving, have these nice flow. Very promising start overall !

Also love these tiny details on the final piece - don't forget to upload it here

Here's a WIP of my poster for a contest. The idea is to promote voting, and as such, the word "VOTE must be in the final image. Let me know your thoughts!

Nice work on the "Vote" poster. Fireworks look quite nice. The foreground is wonderfully rendered: lots of detail in the stone texture, the word VOTE really pops. I like the dramatic camera angle and values, both nice. I really am not crazy about the aesthetic of the superheroes, but that's just a little personal bias. I do like that their faces are vague to go with the "everyman" theme. Also sweet use of the lens flare
Only major concern I have is the anatomy; i see your going for some 90s looking comic book musclebound stuff (which is a good idea, easily recognized) but even within the logic of that the female character looks more like an afterthought and rather stiff. The earlier b&w version has a more believable pose with more attitude. Also her knee/thigh look like were viewing them from strait on instead of from below.

I have no idea when this is due, but hope that helps some. You've got some nice creature designs btw, look forward to seeing you around in the COWs!

Thank you very much for the critique! As far as the anatomy, I couldn't find any referenced for foreshortened people, and this was my first attempt at drawing a female character, so I messed it up pretty badly. I did my best to reference comic books and to find a good pose, but no matter what I did I ended up hating it. This was the best attempt of many terrible ones. Also, even though I tried to represent both sexes equally, I know what you mean when you say the female character looks more like an afterthought. That might just be the penalty of choosing that type of 90s superhero representation. Anyway, if you have any references that could help me with foreshortened anatomy (specifically female), it would be welcome! It's due in four days, so there's still a little time left to make edits.

Some fanart I started recently for DOTA 2. Should be finished sometime within the next week because I have a lot of other work to do, but hopefully I will have a good character illustration to add to my portfolio soon.
