this is a great sketchbook and you have tons of potential. I like how you communicate depth and weight in your studies,
also those charactar studies are preety neat,on the last head study you posted though the principles which you apllied in the rest of your stuff is missing(mainly constuction and perspective).
maybe do some basic head construction studies. to refresh that in your mind.
I defintely be keeping an eye on this thread.
be the change you want to see! help me improve by leaving a comment and Ill help you.

    cfhd: Thank you, I will.
GrayPersona: Thank you. You're definately right, I need to pay more attention to the fundamentals. I often forget to apply them when I mess around with new techniques and end up with things like that last portrait. That's a good suggestion and I'll definitely get round to doing some head construction again.

A sketch from very late last night and some composition practice.

Some more sketches. Might take them further since the second one is pretty crappy and needs work...

Two not so amazing speedpaints. Im trying out working with the lasso tool for the first time. Pretty awkward IMO since you're no longer painting but rather filling random shapes with gradients. Dunno, I like the edges so I will probably work on it some more.

meh meh meh, Im always so sloppy with the perspective. I even tried to set this up correctly using (loose) perspective grids but I always end up eyeballing things because it's quicker. I lack the patience. Maybe that's because I'm not drawing as much as I should/would like to.

Yemi775: Thanks man. You're right. I think I have more patience when I intentionally start a longer piece rather than starting with "just a quick sketch". The second approach always leaves me fustrated in the end.

    Here's a 3 hour study.

Looking really good! That 3h study you did of the reclining woman is really beautiful. The knowledge you're gaining from studies is really showing in your imaginative work too - I love the sketches you posted just afterwards.

Stunning work jondawo. The 3 hour study has a great quality of control and you seem to have a great understanding of form. I'm always a fan of seeing how other artists work so would love to see how to progress in these types of studies. Looking forward to seeing more.

Those selection enviros are pretty interesting. Wouldn't mind trying my hand at something similar. You've got some beautiful studies in here. You also show clear progression which as Matthews just said is great to see. Keep posting.

    blackbear uwandi: Thank you
palladium: Thank you. As for the lasso environments, I'd only recommend the tool for use in specific parts of the image when you want a super clean edge. Making the whole image with the lasso tool felt pretty awkward. I guess that might just be me though.

Great ideas and drive Jondawo. You've clearly thought about how the boat would be held up in the above painting and the sense of scale is really nice You could have made the ship seem even bigger though by having passengers board from both sides or have a tripple layer boarding platform for speed as its such a large boat, my only advice would be to place yourself there and see how things would work. Other than that, nice design and sorry to over-crit a quick piece.

JackGriffin: Those are some good ideas that you gave me. I will definitely try to place myself into the situation in the future. I think it'll help me with coming up with details to flesh out a scene which is something I always have difficulty with.
