Nice sketch for the first thing you've drawn in four years time. I remember how much I struggled after not drawing only for a couple of months to get something decent on paper.

    Looking forward to more.

Seriously I wish *I* was this good and I draw on a daily basis XD. This is great. I like the colouring. I do tend to think the face is A LITTLE bit anime inspired, but not enough to really throw me off. I might suggest rounding her eyes a bit, and I'll bet it'll look a bit less in an anime style, as from what I gathered from yer post, that's what you're looking to do.

    Cheers

    Another sketch - 2010

Below is another frustrating drawings i made before..

The last painting was just made last year 2011. I used some reference to make it look human. But I still find the face so weird.

Up until now i am still playing with this one on how I can make it better and it is still frustrating..

    Using Andrew Loomis method

I noticed some of my drawings have big heads and not proportioned so tried to look some tutorials and I got Andrew Loomis book(really! really! helpful!).

And here are some few sketches I made (still with big heads):

    Red face

Below are my other sketches back in 2010. I tried to make some poses and I copied some of the poses here in an old manga I have before.

Thanks I am glad you like it! Probably I will sketch male figures next time then.

Anyway, here are my latest paintings and drawings..I kind of really want to make a human-like painting but still could not achieve it even with reference.

Draw what you see, not what you think you see.

It's been a while..been so lazy to put my sketches in the computer since i don't have a scanner..it took me so many days to realize that i can just take a picture of my drawings so i can upload it here..

Also, I just realized that i am afraid to draw a complete figure or something traditionally that is not just a dummy using only just a pencil and paper. Back then, I usually draw dummies on the paper then i will scan it at the computer shop so i can just edit it or paint it.. So I decided to practice myself to draw or doodle something on the paper this time. And before I had no confidence to draw a front view face on paper even with guideline. Because i am again afraid to make mistake or make the eye balance, that is why sometimes i had to cheat hiding half of the face or sometimes i just draw half of the face on the paper then i will just scan it so can just duplicate it then flip it just to accomplish a front view face. So now i tried to and i realized that i can..here is some front view faces, weird poses and other doodles..

All of my drawings are not proportioned so I decided to read and study Andrew Loomis' figure drawing. I actually had used this book before but just drew some parts that i think are easy for me..and that is the mannequin lesson and I did not go beyond that because i am really frustrated with the 8 heads and i know that anatomy is soo hard. But then again how will i learn? So now i tried to study the 8 heads and the anatomy.

Those Loomis studies are great! Your realistic heads are getting better, but you're still getting a little bit of anime longface. Watch the proportions. In a front view, without the head tilted up or down, you can divide the face into thirds - one from the chin to the bottom of the nose, one from the nose to the eyebrows, and one from the eyebrows to the hairline. (The thirds leave off the top of the head, but if you remember that eyes go halfway down the head, you should be okay on that front. Also, I think you're drawing your eyebrows too close to your eyes in most cases.)

If you come from an anime background, regular human facial proportions can feel weird, well after the style switch. (I speak from experience...) Just keep on the studies, you're showing some real dedication. =)

Edit: I was writing up this reply before you posted the latest two heads; their eyes and lips are a bit wide, but the overall proportion is much better! Good stuff.

Thank you for this advice! Your right it feels weird and i could not yet discipline myself to make and follow guide lines of a proportioned face whenever i create one without reference. But I am trying to study heads now, thanks for reminding me. Oh and btw, I checked your blog, it is super cool! I saw all the faces and characters you created. Their facial expressions blew me away. Those faces are what i wanted to create, it looks so natural and COOLpld:! Your works inspire me to study and practice more so i can improve myself from creating stiff face and weird expressions. Thanks again!
