progress of life drawing from July 2011

So, at this point I have no idea what I am doing except that i'm trying to capture likeness and implement design elements (shape, value, and edge). these drawings are about 40 minutes long

fast forward a couple of months...

So I'm not going to post all of my drawings between august and december because they are all terrible and one can understand where I was at when I first started. I just want people to "get" the general idea of how I've improved. This post contains the January through current portrait drawings. all drawings are from live models. these drawings range from 40 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes. If I had more time to render from a live model I'm sure I could make these more realistic.

Nice sketchbook start! Even I would be happy if my first colour study would've looked like that!
I just would recommend to show us some stuff from imagination. Right now it's difficult to give some good advices, because all we see are some head studies. So we don't know where your problems are and what we can say to help you to improve =)

Thanks for the nice comment on my sketchbook! Very nice start, some of these figure studies are getting very accurate. Where are you studying? Looking forward to seeing more

    from imagination b&w

@lyraina- I've tried using color before but never by a direct study so I've somewhat learned how to approach using color. thank you for the nice comment. take care!

@valyavande- thank you. haha, I suck at imagination stuff but i will post it to humble myself...and get better.

@tehmeh- your welcome man. thanks, i've been trying to make these studies the best they can be. I'm studying at california art institute in So Cal. California art center isn't anything like art center or cal arts because you only meet once a week. So to get more practice I take a life drawing class and sneak into other life drawing classes at the junior college near where I live. I'd like to go to art center or cal arts but it is just too expensive unfortunately. So, I'm studying at home mostly taking part in the crimson daggers study group. I've just started interacting with them though and becoming more diligent in studying art. But yuuuuup, that's pretty much it. Keep killing it man! GOGOGOOGOGOGO

color study using imagination and reference

So doing a no reference painting proved too hard so i did a 3/4 view using the color study to make this piece from imagination. SO, it was a half imagination, half referenced (color was referenced. that's it.)
I didn't focus on the hair...or the eyes, or the lips, or the nose. haha.. but I will go back and render it. just count this as a wip!

studies for bloodsports 6 CRIMSON DAGGERS

Here's some studies for the 6th bloodsport challenge hosted by the one and only Crimson Daggers. I'm not going to post the main study because i don't want to give away what base animal i'm using for my character creation. ...don't want anyone to steal it 'cause i think it is that good.

    bloodsports 6 final images.

so here's my final images for the bloodsports 6 for the crimson daggers! I only like my bird. XD

So for those participating in the challenge hosted by the crimson daggers the rules were to create a hunter before the kill of a beast/creature/animal, the beast, and the hunter after he's killed the beast where he has applied the items from the beast's carcass.

*I didn't post my "before" hunter cause it really sucks!

    Welcome back!
The master study is lovely, those skintones are adorable!
Just the hair looks a bit rushed, but I guess this was not your focus in this case.

haha, yes, I've got to post more work. This is not EVERYTHING that i've done over the past two months... just some stuff that I think is the better portion. I should really post everything I have though since this thing is called a "sketchbook". I'm really bad at posting consistently though, but thanks for pushing me to do it. Also, thanks for the positive comments. ...and yes, the hair, clothing, neck/back, are very rushed. It ruins the study so I'm going to go back and finish it.
