Turpentine I just choose a neutral color or a color of the scheme I want the pic to be. this is mostly because having a white background makes your eyes tired.

this is the first half of the studies from this week. I´ll post the other hald later today if I have time, and the drawings from imagination when my scanner works again.

sorry for the quality of the photos

continued working on the face and started some kind of background. I try to cover my lack of skill about backgrounds with lots of brushes. I´m so dumb.

well, I´ll just leave it here.

people, please, critique me! I want harsh critiques and if you make me cry I´ll be happy.

You're so productive, keep it up!
Harsh critiques, hmm.. try to connect your colors a bit more, right now you have a human surrounded by green stuff, but in order to make them fit together, they must interact with each other. The green of the leafs is so stron, you should add some to the skin as well. Not much to criticize anatomically, sorry ^^
Be careful with using too many fancy brushes, it makes life easier, but I think it is important to be able to get decent results with basic brushes as well. Then it is time to fasten the progress by using custom brushes. (I do know the temptation of relying on custom brushes though...).
    The nose study is nice!

    Take care.

Experimenting is great! And the results look great, too.

There is one thing I am wondering about: I see that you use a clean hatching, so why don't you traint shading more? I mean, I see that you practise by using mainly the line. This isn't bad or something, but it could be problematic later on, when your skills of using the line improved greatly, but your ability to shade with the pencil stay behind.

You also could look at skin colours. Your photo studies look great, but while painting on your own figures there are colours missing. There are alot of colours in skin, like red, brown or even green. It depends on the light condition and the individual skin.

In general: Your hard-working. I can see that and as a result you are improving quite good!

Narrenzauber Thank you It´s a big fear of mine to improve only in line, and really I´ve been noticing it: when it comes to shading I´m a little bit lost. I´m doing some studies for that, though, hope they´ll help. You are completely right, I feel akward adding green to the skin, even If I know there should be green. I´ll try harder

    I´ve been studying arms!
so, lots of arms, a drawing from imagination, and a study of a flamingo for a challenge on deviantart.

Oh my, your arm studies look far bett than the ones I did some time ago. Nice! And it's nice to see a male character. There aren't many, but well, I guess you will show more next to your nice women.
The flamingo study is really great! And I see that you are more brave with colours on your last work. I am really interested in the finished piece.

another WIP! arms are giving me trouble, and I can´t find a good reference for the pose I want. I´ll probably end up taking photos of myself.
please, critiques in this piece would be greatly apreciated, I want to make at least a good artwork this month.

so, be as mean as you can!

Taking a reference photo yourself is a good idea, because so you can make as many pictures as you want and need and even with a similar light setting. Hm, but gifing a critique? I am not sure, what I should say. Will you adjust the light settings later on, because there will be shadows from the leafs, trees, etc. and some light, which pass throug the leafs. I would do it at the end, when everythin else is done. Will you use texture on the skin?

On your paintings from imagination: You should be more clear about where the light source is and where you can find shadows. Real highlights and dark shadows are missing.

But in general good progress. I like how you did the clouds in the landscape and also the forest. In the second portrait you did a good job on the nose. It is molded.
You could add some green to the figure and some of the colour of the figure into the background, so it would be more harmonic.

Narrenzauber yes, I´ll add the shadows from the vegetation at the end, when everything else is settled. I think I should add some texture to the skin. I´m trying to find the best way to do it. about my painting from imagination, you´re right. I´m still really confused by light sources. I´ve been trying to understand it more, doing studies and such. hope it will start to show soon. and thank you for commenting

so, a portrait from imagination, and more progress on the piece (now she has an arm! yay!)
I tried to make the girl in the portrait look innocent, but I think she looks a little bit evilish.

I´m not as lazy as it may look, I´ve lots of pencil sketches, but still can´t scan them.
