love the gesture studies! very quick and fluid.
and it looks like you are having success with drawing from photos, keep it up!
Wicked hot stuff especially with the greyscale objects, looking good hun!!
@charisjb: Thanks a lot! I saw your sketchbook and I love your studies! such nice skin tones and value! Good work!
@Eyecager: ThanksI did the object studies after you gave me those lighting notes ;3
some 10 sec and 30 sec gesture drawing.

Have some coobs. Im not the best at perspective, and it really shows in my cubes since trying to do them is a bigger pain than should be. Ive heard that you're supposed to start on the outside first? Not entirely clear on that <W>;;

finished the one WIP
Hey! You have some really solid studies so far! I especially loved the statues in the 9th post. Scratch that, everything in the 9th post is great. The WIP you haven't finished yet looks really interesting as well. My only critique would be to try to incorporate different colors into your image. Your lighting and shadows seem to be a lot of the same color just lighter/darker. For the WIP you finished of the monster girl, I think you could have really taken the glowing flowers a lot farther. It seems you just lit around them when you could have had some of the light following the figures shapes and defining them further.
Can't wait to see what you post in the future!
Thanks Stroudle! Yeah, incorporating color into shadows has always been a problem with me and it's something I need to improve on/do more studies of. I SHOULD have given more thought to the lighting from the flowers, and I thank you for pointing that out. I might redo that picture, actually, since it was intended for a bookmark but my resolution wound up being too low due to not working on my normal canvas ( 72dpi *cringe* ). I definately need to take more time on it and I have a few WIPs, including the picture from post 15 and the second half of 18, that Im hoping to test some things out on; mainly colors and lighting.
sketch from post #18
sketch I did
I did an underpainting but lost the picture I took of it.
here is where I am at right now.
checking values by going to image>grayscale is beautiful, btw.
You have great lighting in a lot of your pieces.
In the latest dragon painting, the hair gradient seems a bit strong and the hair feels 2D because of the white lines on the left.
Hopefully you can post more than once a month in the future!
augh. I hope so too. I do so much doodles and sketches, but not as many finished pieces or studies; which I need to change.
Thanks for the critI looked up some rim lighting pictures and I noticed how the rim light will give a bright/saturated look to the hair it hits with some white on the edge. ahh, one of the things I need to study!
do you have any tips?![]()
I always feel weird critiquing people better at painting than me. But hey, everyone's a critic, right?
I think it has something to do with how each end part of the hair is the same color/shade and they're all angling in the same direction. They're also a bit too thick for hair.
Also, when hair is back-lit, the light tends to eat into the hair more and reveal lots of strands.
Here's some pictures of hair in the wind and back-lit hair for reference:

You make really good points! Thanks so much!![]()
You are good on shading. That blue dragon looks great.
Sorry I haven't posted an update on the painting.. ive been doing commissions and these concepts for a little comic project.
