hi, my name is jake ganz. i'm 17 and i'm looking to be a bad enough dude to make video games. right now i am working on my coding and drawing ability. i've been drawing a lot longer than i've been coding, but i'd like to get as solid as i can with both skills.

i thought it'd be a cool idea to post my art here and get some criticism, and see how far i can come along with improvement. currently i draw daily, focusing on character design/illustration as well as pixel art and animation, but i want to round myself out and try a lot of different things. i do not go to art school and i'm not really sure if i will, so it looks like self-teaching is the name of the game.

i also take a lot of inspiration from eastern material and pretty much only work digitally, so if you really hate those sorts of things, you will probably hate this sketchbook. enjoy!

Thanks for commenting on my SB, you've got a good start going on here, it's nice to see someone else going down the self-teaching route.

The best advice I can give you is to draw from life, eg. draw yourself in a mirror, go out, somewhere busy and try to capture people with quick gesture drawings etc. Working this way will inform everything you do and will improve any imaginative drawings you may attempt.

Keep studying Bridgeman etc. but look at your own body and apply the techniques and approach of these guys to drawings from life- you'll appreciate why they made the marks they made this way, if that makes sense.

For line quality, try to draw from your shoulder rather than your wrist, just give yourself enough space to do so, even when using a tablet.

At any rate, I like the flow of your drawings, you show a lot of promise. Keep it up

really love the energy in your body studies.
When sketching more start thinking about your lines more and really commit to them. This will build more confidence in your line work i think.

some more Bridgman studies i've done in the last week. trying to eliminate my scribbly seizure lines that i do where i'm less confident, and am trying to step out of my comfort zone a bit.

Hey Ganz! Looking good so far. I had the same problem with my lines. They were all over the place. It'll be fixed overtime though, don't worry. From the looks of it though, looks like your line quality has improved already! So yeah...just keep at it and don't forget to study from life. Oh, and that drawing you did of Spike is dope! ;D
