    Kiwizoom's Sketches and Paints

I'd been having trouble getting things to publish lately but hopefully this SB makes it.

Basically I am starting a seminar in school and would really like to ramp up my work. The area I chose is sci fi, something I really like but am a novice at painting. I'd like to cover a lot of bases such as architecture, mechanical, character design, creature design, landscapes, unique perspectives, interior and exterior locations, all with a sort of contemplative/introspective or airie feel to them.

    Thank goodness this published.

Here is some of the recent artwork I've done, whether finished or not:

I'll submit some theme related stuff in the post(s) below.

I will appreciate any critique and feedback you give me, as well, feel free to suggest to me new themes/ideas/directions you think I could go into : ) Hope you enjoy.

Here's some sketches I generated thinking about the seminar. What do you think?

    Some environment-y practice

A spaceship cockpit-type theme, roughed out

Bit of an astronaut type drawing, I wasn't sure how to plan the background but I kind of liked the feel

I like the first and last of the three... In the first one the rocks just need a more three dimensional aspect.
And that last piece is nice, I wanna see some progress on it

Nice environmental sketches. You clearly have an eye for lighting and contrast in environments, although I agree with WRappiii that you could probably push the 3D-ness of the form a little farther in some of them. Also, there are areas such as the area beneath the rocks in that sketch that have very large areas of dark values where you could push the contrast a little bit more.

The very first image looks good, too--it'd be nice to see more work like that that's a bit more developed/rendered.

    Great work so far!

Thank you Meps, I'll look out for that. I may get a bit abstract-y sometimes but I'll push for more 3D values definitely ^^

This is another sort of 'peripheral' I was working on, it was a funpaint I started awhile ago and decided to finish a little yesterday. It's basically a pokemon fakemon; a ghost-water type horse that is similar to rapidash. As my friend put it, "Isn't it a little hardcore for pokemon?" Yes, it kind of is.. Anyway, I think some of the color and details look a little funny, so I'm not sold yet.

Great sketchbook so far. You are experimenting quite a bit, I like that.

The contrast of values in some of your works is very high. I would say try to avoid such extremes and only use those in areas you want the viewer to fucus on, otherwise there is just too much overwhelming visual information.

Another thing that will improve your colors is that you shouldn´t use so much pure black. I mean especially the first pictures. Black tends to dirt up images very much, so instead use dark colors.

I´m looking forward to the next update

    Will: thanks!
    Kiba: Preciate the feedback!
I do tend to focus on contrast a lot. Recently I switched monitors from a really foggy display to a really sharp one, and I think I used colors too close to black. I was a bit paranoid because the pictures I painted that used to look sharp look like fog and mud so I was overcompensating a bit. I'll try to work a little lighter, it is probably better for detail anyway. Thanks again!

And below is an updated version of the piece earlier.

Thanx for stopping by my sketchbook. ^^

I love where your stuff is going; nice colors and mood (that growling/attacking animal in your first post is nice)... I would defo like to see more finished stuff.
Please, help me improve by visiting my sketchbook and kicking me in the ass! ^_^

hey really nice! I love your concept deisgns! One thing I would say is to start focusing on getting more flow to your drawings. Do more life drawing and read up on some force dynamics. Getting life and energy into your drawings will boost everything up!

Hi! I'm going to start up my sketchbook again. This is a painting from last year already, but I'd like to include it.
Next, I think I'm going to try to adventure into landscapes or mechanical work. It is a weak area for me yet.

I am trying to do some architectural drawings, the other day I got stuck. They were pretty bad so I did some reference paintings of guns instead to learn how to draw rigid objects more. The middle one was done last and it was freeform from my head.

After doing practice paints, I did a purely conceptual gun. It's designed for a non human race, so the finger holes are purposefully spread apart
