Has anyone taken those myers-briggs or Jung personality tests? Now I'm curious which personality type various people are.
I tend to test as INTJ, with a very occasional flip into ENTJ (probably when I have a manic moment LOL)

I've taken it. I'm INFP. I really like being alone and I find other people especially in groups exhausting. The only people that don't exhaust me are my family.
Actually I've always found school to be a bit of a problem because even though I love learning, the amount of noisy interaction with such a large group of people always wiped me out before lunch and then I was just a walking zombie wishing I was home to take a nap.

Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams

I'm an INFJ, which sometimes flips over to INTJ since according to all the ones I took, I strike a pretty fine balance between that feeling/thinking line. I take stuff like that with a grain (a whole bucket) of salt, but it seems to suit me really well.
It doesn't surprise me that the older I get, the closer I toe the line to T rather than F. I'm very much a skeptical person; I love the shit out of science, and revel in being proved wrong by actual solid evidence. Apparently that's not very common in INFJs who apparently are just stubborn and won't budge when they "feel" something is right, which I really hope doesn't describe me...

Those four letters are just an indicator of the order and preference in which we use our cognitive functions. The way you guys are talking about it flipping and such... it doesn't really work that way.
I'm an INTP so my most dominant function is introverted thinking(Ti).
Then Extroverted Intuition(Ne)
Then Introverted Sensing(Si)
Then Extroverted Feeling(Fe)
If i was INTJ it would be,
Introverted Intuition(Ni)
Extroverted Thinking(Te)
Introverted Feeling(Fi)
Extroverted Sensing(Se)
There are only eight functions and everyone uses all of them, the only difference is in which ones you use the most.

In my case, I meant that I had taken the test a few times when I was younger and it came up as INFJ, before my 20s, but then the most recent couple I took showed up as INTJ. That's what I meant by it sometimes flipping - I got different test results, haha. People change as they age, it doesn't strike me as impossible for a function to become slightly more or less dominant over time.
From minute to minute, though, yeah. I can't see it working that way. I never think, "Oh I was feeling rather INTJ yesterday but today I am much more F" or whatever.

Of course,
INTJ and INFJ are fairly similar as well, in terms of functions. And they both have the same dominant one.
Thanks for the clarification Misplacedhippos. I was just about to say the same thing. The dimensions of the MBTI are preferences, ie. the way you PREFER to deal with the world. Most of us are capable of reacting in the opposite way if circumstances require it.
Theoretically, our preferences are genetically determined, but we can get different test score, depending on the environment in which we take the test. For example, because the F end of the dimension is not classically considered acceptible in a corporate work environment, many people will skew their answer to the T side because they think that is what their employers will value, if the test is taken in a corporate work environment.
I am an INFJ, but I spent most of my work career acting as an INTJ, because that was more effective. But I'm still an INFJ.

In my case I meant that taking the test in different moods seem to affect the result in a somewhat consistent pattern.
Just took that test, and damn, that is freaky! I got ENTP, and the Heiss-explanation is spookily spot on.
"ENTPs (...) generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their debating skills. ENTPs tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. This sometimes confuses, even angers, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport."
I'm an INTP too![]()

Myers--Briggs is like polite fortune cookie twaddle.
[Nobody enthusiastically chats about a MB profile that labels them a self-destructive psychopathic grifter.]
But, I'm sure lots of self-destructive psychopathic grifters have taken that modern piece of pseudo-science and chat happily about their "self-discovery."![]()
I cant decide, do I best improvise from past experience and am awesome, or do I best improvise from theoretical understanding and am awesome?

Here you go,

Talked to another human being lately? I'm serious. You value knowledge above ALL else. You love new ideas, and become very excited over abstractions and theories. The fact that nobody else cares still hasn't become apparent to you...
Nerd's a great word to describe you, and I seriously couldn't care less about the different definitions of the word and why you're actually more of a geek than a nerd. Don't pretend you weren't thinking that. You want every single miniscule fact and theory to be presented correctly.
Critical? Sarcastic? Cynical? Pessimistic? Just a few words to describe you when you're at your very best...*cough* Sorry, I mean worst. Picking up the dudes or dudettes isn't something you find easy, but don't worry too much about it. You can blame it on your personality type now.
On top of all this, you're shy. Nice one, wench. No wonder you're on OKCupid! Now, quickly go and delete everything about "theoretical questions" from your profile page. As long as nobody tries to start a conversation with you, just MAYBE you'll now have a chance of picking up a date. But don't get your hopes up.
I am interested though. If a tree fell over in a forest, would it really make a sound?
Hah, I got:
That's interesting because I've always gotten INFP before.Freak- INFJ
20% Extraversion, 67% Intuition, 40% Thinking, 53% Judging
Well, well, well. How did someone like you end up with the least common personality type of them all? In a group of 100 Americans, only 0.5 others would be just like you. You really are one of a kind... In fact, I do believe that that's one of the definitions for the word "FREAK."
Freak's not such a bad word to describe you actually.
You are deep, complex, secretive and extremely difficult to understand. If that doesn't scream "Freak!" I don't know what does. No-one actually knows the REAL you, do they?
You probably have deep interests in creative expression as well as issues of spirituality and human development.
You've probably even been called a "psychic" before, because of your uncanny knack to understand and "read" people without quite knowing how you do it. Don't fret. You're not actually psychic. That would make you special and you'll never accomplish that.
You're also quite possible the most emotional of them all, so don't take this all too hard. Nevertheless you most definitely have the strangest personality type and that's not necessarily a good thing.
I have a mild form of autism, but I became a teaching assistant for a programming class and now I give twice-weekly lectures and help other college students figure out what's wrong with their code. I have no problem presenting in front of thirty or sixty people about these topics, or talking to them about the class, but I freeze up when people start making "small talk."
I have become more confident speaking to people in my major because they know that I have technical skills, but I still can't really fit in as a human (and I often get described as "robot-like").
I also tried drawing pictures of my classmates in high school hoping that they'd like me better. They were quite into having artwork of themselves, but I could tell they were kind of pained to be around me. I did manage to make one close friend who liked me for who I was, not what I could make for her. So, even though I haven't fully succeeded yet, I guess I'd recommend not trying to change yourself just to be more appealing to others. If I tried to become a party-going socialite and somehow succeeded, I don't think I'd like myself anymore. (not to say that becoming somewhat more social is a bad thing).
I looked at the MBTI descriptions and seemed to fit ISTP the most.
Yea, same here. I've taken the tests several times... probably 70% of the times the test came out INTJ, and 30% of the times result was ENTJ.... because you don't answer all the questions identically every time. Especially the ones where you are a bit in the fence, and don't exhibit a really strong dominant trait.
It's been a few years since I last took any of them, so I forgot the details. I'd have to do some refresher reading to be able to discuss details.

Wow, look at all of us introverts here!
ISTJ on the previous test and INTJ on that okcupid one, uhm
The other one said i´m superPeople hate you.
Paris Hilton hates Nicole Richie. Lex Luther hates Superman. Garfield hates Mondays. But none these even rates against the insurmountable hate, people have for you.
I mean, you're pretty damn clever and you know it. You love to flaunt your potential. Heard the word "arrogant" lately? How about "jerk?" Or perhaps they only say that behind your back.
That's right. I know I can say this cause you're not going to cry. You're not exactly the most emotional person. You'd rather spend time with your theoretical questions and abstract theories than with other people.
Ever been kissed? Ever even been on a date? Trust me, your inflated ego is a complete turnoff with the opposite sex and I am telling you, you're not that great with relationships as it is. You're never going to be a dude or chick magnet, purely because you're more concerned with yourself than others. Meh. They all hate you already anyway.
How about this- "stubborn?" Hrm? Heard that lately? All those facts which don't fit your theories must just be wrong, right? I mean, really, the vast amounts of time you spend with your head in the clouds...you're just plain strange.![]()

Do volunteer work at a local community center or do you something around the community, i have issues with shyness too. Don't drink alcohol because You might end up doing some stupid that you will regret. I done it and now I am in a state of parnoid and i am sure people at the STD clinic are tired of seeing me.
I usuall think that kind of tests are awfully simplistic and the final results are very broad but reading a bit of the ISTJ it does eerily resembles a lot how i am, much more than other personality types. I mean in both positive and negative things it kinda nalied it.
Yeah, i knew that, i did find it pretty funny and is not like i havent got a thing or two of that description thrown against me i admit.
