    Thumbs up

I've been intending to buy an ipad and a stylus since December... was going to buy the JotPro and an ipad 2... almost did and then I hear the ipad 3 is coming out... and now this... so I guess I'll have to wait.

I really want to start sketching like this instead of on my old wacom.

    Thanks for the info!

Has anybody tryed this yet? Wonder if it's worth having or ust a fun but useless gadget. Does the pen lag a lot when you sketch?

And I read somewhere apple doesn't support this yet is that true?

    Anybody?

I keep checking the Adonit site (like I'm waiting on an after first date call lol). I love my adonit and having a bit of pressure sensitivity would make it almost perfect. Apple is slow about approving anything new.

my new iPad 3 is ready for this

Now, what software is going to support this? Sketchbook Pro and ArtRage seem to own the iOS illustration market right now. Anyone know if they're able to support this out of the box, or will they need updates to use the new tech?

I think you should ask that on artrage support forum, they're replying pretty quickly.

my guess it's not pressure-ready atm and only utilizes velocity data from your fingers

Since Arshes Nei directed me here, I thought I'd throw this into the mix. I thought it was especially cool that the pen led lights up the color you selected. I'm also super hyped about hand cancelling when the device is activated.

The ipad is a toy. Unless true pressure sensitivity is implemented into the design, using tricks such as velocity and proximity input is an insult to your intelligence. I'd take a WinSlate/Tab and Hackintosh it before I'd ever even consider wasting my time on some overgrown beard, holes in jeans, wool beanie wearin in July, raggley skater shoe wearin, more employees than customers in the Mac store hangin', cultist Apple fanboy iPad. Stop before you wake up later and realize you wasted precious creative time trying to make a digital tempera fingerpaint Diablo III scene. Not gonna happen.

W00t! I've been looking forward to this. I must admit, I'm a little interested in the inner mechanics of this thing. Is the tip pressure sensitive?

Yup, and some of us, who're getting it purely for the ipad exclusive games, kinda wanna draw on it to the extant possible.

The iPad is its own niche. I would never recommend to anyone at this point to get one purely for art. But lets face it, some of us like you mentioned above, use it for work or pleasure and if it can pull double duty as a sketch pad, great. Its not up to snuff yet but if the next generation of styluses are both pressure sensitive and more precise, it could just turn into something that an artist would want to have in their bookbag.

The iPad IS a great bookreader though. I've stated before. All those books you don't need to carry around when you want to look up anatomy reference. Or there's a chapter in a book that you want to read on the go or warm up to certain painting exercises. The iPad can pretty much carry multiple books instead of excess baggage to carry around.

This is still all theoryware so until it comes out...I'm not that excited anymore.

ipad is the perfect tool of sketching for artists like us. I have an ipad and I use several sketch apps. It is fun to take it out for sketch, almost close to Photoshop but remotely. But there is one thing I hate about Ipad. Their color is not the same as your pc/mac so to correct it, you must calibrate it (really annyoing) if you want to work further more in PS. But other in mind it is a really good digital sketchbook, I highly recommend it for someone who is not scared of sensitivity, I dont use sensure pressure on my wacom either, which is giving me more confident working in professional.

So does Jot Touch pressure sensitivity control the size of the brush or the opacity and can it be toggled like in Photoshop for example? Because we need both.

edit: based on the screenshot from Procreate it looks like you can use both from their dynamics menu:

What about this one, advertised to have more levels of pressure but no info on compatible apps:

Only for iPad 2 and 3?

    http://amzn.com/B007Z0A7AG

Looks like the JaJa one is also available for order at 89.99 which can be used with Android tablets (if they have a microphone) - they'll be shipping now

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-stylus-for-ip

Friend showed me this review. http://www.macworld.com/article/1167...e_promise.html

Apparently the Jot only has 256 levels. The JaJa claims 1024.

    Sort of a bummer:

Procreate uses pressure sensitivity only for opacity, omitting brush size—there’s no option to swap between or turn on both. And those opacity levels can be finicky, even with user brush customization—light and dark ranges are perfect, but trying to consistently use mid-range pressure proved very difficult for the app to parse.
The company claims that apps can work with up to 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, though I found that most of the Jot Ready apps had far fewer noticeable levels. In a comment on Adonit’s Facebook page, the company admitted that many of its partner apps are “dumbing down the levels” to avoid the Bluetooth connection requiring “more processing power with no advantage.”
This shows in the original video in OP, where it goes from light to dark with very little in between.

Yeah it is. I'm still interested in the JaJa I am about to purchase it but wanted to see if there's a review first. It still maintains the 1024 levels, doesn't use bluetooth - so you can doodle on a plane. You can even use it on Android if it has a mic.

It actually cost less than the Joint with shipping combined...

Another Jot touch review, it looks like it has 2(!) levels of pressure:

    http://cowkitty.net/post/28526878209...rst-impression

Тhe Jaja looks better, but not by much, same going from light to extremely dark at midpoint.

    Procreate 1.6.3 will support Jaja:

Ok so I just got my JotTouch yesterday evening and had an hour or so to mess around with. I tried it with both procreate and sketchbookpro and at first after setting up the Bluetooth connection I thought something was wrong because I could only create 2 levels of pressure... So I restarted my iPad and tried again... Same results so far

It definitely draws better (feels more like actual drawing) than my old rubber tipped stylus, and it's great that you can see exactly where you are drawing through the clear "precision disk", it's comfortable to hold good weight good length good quality. So as far as all that it's worth it to me, but definitely frustrating that it only has 2 levels of pressure. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, or just haven't figured out what to do right, but as it is right now 2 levels of pressure is it! Maybe by 256 they meant 2.56... Disappointment in that department for sure. If I can somehow figure out how to get more levels out of it I'll let you know.

Another review keeps showing disconnects when using the Jot Touch http://www.tuaw.com/2012/08/01/adoni...ylus-for-ipad/ (one of the reasons I was rather hesitant with blutooth.)

Culd be the issues have more to do with the applications more than the stylus...

Procreate has an update with Apple waiting approval. With regards to the Jot Touch James from Si said

"The next Procreate update (1.6.3) will ship with the latest Adonit SDK along with some slight improvements to Procreate itself along with some pressure specific improvements (More on that soon). "

    So hang tight.
