Nice painting. I think people need to steal your cookies more often. Did you ever find the culprit?
For Science- Sketchbook!
haha no i never found the culprit..
studying animal anatomy today and heres some imagination sketches after just trying to utilize what im learning. they are crappy now but they will improve with time.(i know veeery little about animal anatomy)
im going to focus more on construction and basic values, and colors for a while and less on rendering because construction is much more important.Im seriously lacking in a lot of the foundations department especially if i want to be a well rounded concept artist, so this year im going to be mostly focusing on getting a real grounding in the different things i need to learn.

15 minute dragon sketchiness, for some collaboration study with Cojac.
thinking of a sort of mountain goat dragon that has fur over its scales or something. and some sort of darker color transition on the end of its more dragon/lizard parts. going to get some reference and then research more mountain goat anatomy along with lizard scales and all that and work on this some more.

You have potential! Two things though: First... APPLY YOUR STUDIES. Seriously man, I wasted 5 sketchbook pages drawing from the same books as you, and the results were lackluster. The best way to use these studies is as reference. Sure, draw those muscles and memorize them.. But then use that knowledge and those proportions on your drawings!
Second: Pick up your sketchbook pages, face them away from you, and hold them up to the light. Do the characters look like they are leaning one way for no particular reason? If it does to you, it certainly does to us too.
Edit: Realize there were like 20 more pages of your sketchbook after the one I was looking at. You certainly improved! That said, your pictures could benefit greatly from more focus on the form!
Warning! Drinking lots of beer can impair your senses. Please do so before you view my sketchbook!

hey thanks for the advice Nadesican! and yes definately dude, and im definately trying to use that knowledge. at the moment i know much more about human muscles and anatomy stuff than animals(which is almost nothing) but gotta keep working on it. and ya i noticed that i have the habit of slightly tilted figures so now i try to make sure to rectify that mistake.
my room has my studies posted all over the walls now so i can use them
when i do quick sketches i don't think about proportions a lot and then i usually wait until im refining the piece and i think wait..this was supposed to be a quick sketch... well gotta make sure to fix those mistakes early from now on.
edit: thanks a lot, and definately. construction and form, my biggest obstacles lol

Hi blazingdimensions, I saw your dragon. Great profile view. If you want to improve this sketch think about the composition and what will the dragon be doing. I also did my dragon.
ooh cool ill check it out, do you have any advice for composition? i don't know too much about it besides the rule of thirds.

Well, the thing that really helps me with composition is to do thumbnail sketches, like if you were going to do a scene, you draw it small and test the design, change the design on another and apply tones. Draw it really simply, not detailed, and try moving things around the rectangle of the thumbnail, untill you find an arrangement that is good and can be rendered bigger.
Also don't put things on the center of the frame, try to move things around the centre, because it helps give more dinamics.
that helped a whole lot actually, thanks!

I like your drawing. The face has a good proportion. My only critique is about the distance between the eyes, they are too close. I really like the nose and the mouth. Good work.
