Hey there, my name is Scott (you can call me Scotty if you like), and I'm here to learn, fail, and grow from failure. My goal is to to be a versatile conceptual artist, able to adapt to almost any type of stylization or realism in both hard and soft surface art. Please feel free to crit, comment, make suggestions, and point out glaring issues.

Here are some character sketches, the first is Cortana from Halo, the second is a friends Character "Alice", and the third is Harley Quinn. I actually don't do a lot of Fanart, but I like these sketches. More coming up.

Some more sketches. If a piece is intended to be coloured, I'll do neater line art in Photoshop or Painter. I've recently learned that I need to make line art thinner if I want to have the final piece look less comic-like and more like a painted character.

Some of my major influences are from Samwise Didier, Glenn Rayne and Chris Metzen, Glenn Keane, Don Bluth, Mark Henn, Feng Zhu (his early years), Francis Tsai, Ogure Ito, Stanley Lau, J. Scott Campbell, Jason Chan, Charlie Bowater, Hoang Fang, Kenneth Rockafort, Michael Angelo, Reinaldo Quinterra, Tom Bancroft and tons and tons more (think I've missed some big ones!). My work looks stylized, but I guess it's intentional, I don't really have a particular "style" (at least, not as far as I can tell) that I try to stick to, it's all based right now on what either I want it to look like, or what a client wants.

Feel free to crit this stuff, I'll be posting like a maniac!

I've never really spent more than 5 hours on a painting, but I want to start, because I think it will give me a more refined edge. I'm busy working on a portfolio, and that is my main focus in 2012 - it'll mostly have paintings/painted characters in it, so I hope to be able to do some work that meets professional standards with a time budget of 15-20 hours a piece.

Hopefully the above and below work has given you an idea of my current level, so please let me know some things that I could really work on and improve on. I'm constantly studying Colour and Light from James Gurney, as well as Anatomy from Burne Hogarth. I also consult Loomis, various Christopher Hart Books, "Creating Characters with Personality" by Tom Bancroft and so on. I'm not anywhere near where I want to be, and I only really learned to sort of kind of draw properly in 2011, so I'd really appreciate all your advice and crits.

Well, here is the girl. Her name is Abbigail, and she is a 19 year old who got captured while she was sleeping, and consequently runs around in her pajamas. She possesses some psycho-kinetic powers apparently. She is one of three concept paintings for a short indie film called "Waking Hour".

I tamed the expression a bit which I probably shouldn't have done, but it's a learning process I guess. This took around 7-10 hours, I'm not entirely sure. I was aiming for slightly more realistic. Please feel free to crit and comment, I don't cry about solid, constructive criticism. Make me better!

Hey there, thank you so much, trust me when I say it means so much to me! I have such a long way to go, just when I think "yes, I'm there!" I realise I haven't actually even started 1/10th of the journey - art is so tough! That said, I love it so much!! LOVE!! hehe

I took a good look through your sketchbook, wow man, you have made such a lot of progress in a short period of time! Keep it up, I totally want to see more of your work as your grow and progress!!
