Wasp Just want to make presentable art one day...

Hello Everyone, my name is Pinecallada and I'm a 15 years old girl from the US!!!
After lurking in this forum for a few months I finally decided to make a account and a sketchbook!!!

I really lost a lot of my motivation to draw last year because of starting high school and the heavy workload that came with my new school...

But after getting inspired from all the sketchbooks on CA and improvement memes on DA I decided to get off my butt and actually motivate and improve myself this year........

I'm counting on everyone here to help me on my journey

Here's my DA if you are interest http://videogamedrawer.deviantart.com

Red face 2 months still no update...? Still embarrassing!

Ughhh....this is what happens when I hold off for uploading until the next day...The next time I actually upload its a few months later... Seems like everyone in this site is improving except me, got to spend less time doing this and more time doing this

Anyway...all the drawings below are lifedrawings except the bird and the tree with the random animals.
    I'm uploading tomorrow for sure

EDIT:I'm SO sorry these images are so big!!! This CA attachment uploader is so confusing I spent atleast 30 minutes trying to edit my images to work well with it. I think I'm going to go back using photobucket. Can anyone tell me how to make the images smaller? I tried changing the resolution and everything but it still wont't work...

Hey dudette, keep up the life drawings, I notice from your lines that you're unsure about where you're going with them?
You should practice making less lines, and jot down the forms.

Also, incorporate art into your school work. I do that all the time, i.e; if you get to choose a topic, choose something like the study of art or art history.
+looking through your DA I see you have done a lot of anime, which won't help you in the long run.

    Thanks for the comment !

are you gonna update this thing regularly or not? you gotta make up your mind! That goes for your lines too, like Lukas said they're scratchy and all over the place. Use as few lines as you need.
It's good to see you're drawing from life, do that more. Get a good book to learn perspective with too, that's step one. this is a pretty nice one. Loomis rules.

start working hard if you want art to be your job.

    Thanks for the advice!!!

You're right. I do use too many lines in the outlines of my drawing. I think its because I was trying to copy the gesture drawing technique even though it should probably be used only when drawing quick anatomy poses like the ones on posemanics instead of regular drawing!

For the other thing, I'm actually taking a proper art class at my school next year. Its sad how at my school, you can't take art classes until junior year.

Also, I really decreased the amount of anime I drew this year.

    Thanks for the links!!!

Like I said to Lukas, I was trying to copy the gesture drawing technique but i guess it should only be used for figure drawing, not regular drawing. I never noticed how messy my pictures really look with all the lines....

I actually have that Loomis figure drawing book but never really used it as much as I should because the inches to proportions thing where the whole body is divided my 8 inches is kind of confusing to me. When you're drawing figures, do you always have to take a ruler and divided the body by eight inches to match every body part right?

And the perpective,, I should do that too. (So many things to study but have no idea what study should I focus on)

I really do need to start working hard. You're uploading like 10 images a day. I should really get off this computer and draw my butt off before I have to study my butt off for finals

first, not sure what you mean by "gesture drawing technique" but whatever it is it's no good. Gestures take even less lines than regular drawings! What you seem to be doing is chicken scratching because you're not confident enough to make one line and leave it. Check out the links at in my signature and do some 10 to 30 second gestures, just draw the whole pose in that limited time and move on to the next one. that should teach you not to dawdle on detail.
I try to make my gestures look like this guy's

As for the figure drawing thing, I'd suggest you wait to learn that stuff until you've gotten a grasp of perspective and proportion and form. You should be going through "fun with a pencil" or "successful drawing", not "figure drawing for all it's worth". But to answer your question, yes if you are drawing an ideal 8 head figure you divide it into 8 equal parts to find the landmarks. Not inches. this is a matter of proportion. With perspective you can draw a 10 inch long figure and a 3 centimeter one and make it looks like they're the same size in space, and you use the 8 heads to make sure the features on the figures look like the same proportion too.
Take note that 8 heads is idealized, people are more likely to be 7 or 7 1/2 or 6 if they're pretty short. You can use 9 heads for heroic superhero figures and the like.

And the perpective,, I should do that too. (So many things to study but have no idea what study should I focus on)
Let me help you out. focus on perspective and form construction. that is all for now. You're welcome.

Thank you so much for all the great information! I checked out the links in your signature but both of the links are 404'd.

Your information about figure drawing and perspective really cleard up some of my confusion. But are you sure its important to learn perspective first then figure drawing? I don't really see a lot of artist doing that. But you're probably right

you cannot draw the figure, or anything really, without knowing perspective well.
Forms in life are complicated, and the human body is really complicated. Pretty much the only way anyone has been able to become good at drawing is by being able to first break life down into basic forms, like spheres, cylinders, and boxes, boxes being the most important because everything fits into a box.. perspective is how you learn to depict these forms in space. So if you can't do that, you can't draw anything

guess I gotta fix my sig! http://www.lovecastle.org/draw/
