Verehin and Jrbarker, your entries lack the character sheet which is required in order to get into the poll. The character sheet must contain at least a front and a back view of the character design. I understand if you dont know about this it is a relatively new rule, but it helps to keep this challenge more towards designing rather than illustration.

Here is my final entry, along with a short description:

The suit of the Red Commander is based on the Cокол (Falcon) indoor space suit. I reinforced it to suggest heavier duty and possible extra-vehicular activities.
The RC wears 'Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union' epaulettes, as well as the 'Order of Victory' ribbon on his collar. This medal was awarded to generals and marshals for "successful operation within the framework of one or several fronts resulting in a radical change of the situation in favour of the Red Army." I figure the Empire would award it to the RC and other top military in anticipation of their glorious and desperate effort.

Thanks for watching, good luck to you all.

I've tried to follow the brief
The Red Commander, is standin on the bridge of the most enormous starship of the entire fleet (for this I made an holographic floor, and then I add some flags behind him to give some atmosphere)

I also made him with some mechanical part because the brief mention that it's situated in the future with superadvanced technology so..

hope u like it, good job everyone

    Plagiarism

    jrbarker

your image is copied from Dean Holdeen

you should really rethink your strategy of copying other people's work.
someone will always see it and call you out
you are only cheating yourself by thinking you can fool everyone

It's similar, but not identical, I'll admit the pose is almost 100% 'borrowed', but we cant be too harsh.
@jrbarker It's ok to copy someone else's work, it helps you improve, although it is frowned upon to say or imply directly or indirectly that it is your work.
The reason I am saying saying this is because I don't want anyone to be put off coming to CA because they are embarrassed, or worse, put off art all together (although I know how unlikely that is).

When I was young, I used to not clean my teeth and lie about it, my dad always told me "don't cheat yourself" (just like trevor is saying) - meaning, you're only harming yourself by not brushing your teeth, its not going to bother anyone else if you don't brush your teeth and they fall out, just like no one will care if your work isn't yours, you will however have to deal with your own conscience, because YOU know you didn't do that work.

A little tip, don't let other people's work into your own art further than reference, of course, if you want to copy something, that's fine, just make sure you tell everyone that its a copy, and certainly don't enter it into a competition under your own name.

Oh, and I know I put something in the WIPs thread and I have nothing here (something I do consistently), I didn't have the time to take it further, and this time I have an excuse: It's been a busy week, 3 exams

you should look at the WIP thread, its directly painted over someone else's work and passed off as his own.
in my book that's plagiarism. im not being "too harsh" just calling a spade a spade. that sort of thing gets people and companies sued and is in no way acceptable. even when i was a crap artist, my work submitted for this competition was always my own. i would suggest removing your post or at the very least crediting mr. holdeen but in general this is terrible, dishonest behavior and should not be tolerated. this is a contest of design not a study thread and should be treated as if you were doing a job for a client.

Excuse me, but it isn't plagiarism and it isn't a paint over. I am in no way trying to pass off someone else's work as my own. But think whatever you like. Was I inspired by Holdeen's work? Absolutely. Is it the same pose? Yeah, its a really basic pose. But the design is different and there was no paint over happening here so please stop bring my ethics into question.

dont get mad at me here. you did this , i just noticed
in a situation like this there is no way NOT to question ethics.
you need to credit people when you do things like this. its simply not cool.
when employers see things like this they worry about whether or not the portfolio is legit, whether they will get sued. its ok to be inspired and yes you DID change the design. but if the 1st thing someone sees when looking at it is SOMEONE ELSE'S art then you may have gone too far.

if you want to get defensive instead of owning up to it and moving on, be my guest, but that only makes you look bad.
you dont have to listen to me if you dont want to. im only a professional with a senior position and a long list of freelance clients....

I'm defending myself because you're making false accusations. Period. You're being a bit of a bully. This challenge was all in fun, up until now. I take my reputation seriously. So I don't like it when someone comes in and tries to claim I've done something shady when I haven't. It's ridiculous.

Now I'm finished with this conversation.

Good luck to the other artists. There were some nice images on this round.
