Just a few personal works [***NOW WITH GROUNDWORK***]

    Good day.

Other than sc. illustration, this year I've found much more difficult to make the apropriate time (and state of mind) to do drawings of personal stuff. However, even if simple, I've done some stuff I'd like to get corrections/critique/observations from you (there's another one coming on, but it'll take longer than I thought)...

So here they are. As always, thanks in advance for your time.

Well, the colouring and rendering looks pretty nice in all of those, but all of those really fall apart with the anatomy and posing. Huge heads, anorectic looking limbs, misplaced ears, noodely fingers (Asuka's fingers and hand looks really creepy and I can't really figure out what she's doing with her other hand [our left side] because it just looks like it's grasping nothing) which all end up giving a lackluster feel rather than appealing or deliberate stylization. So I think you really should put more effort into studying anatomy and use references.

Structure. Structure, structure, structure, STRUCTURE. Stop treating the drawing as a flat thing and start thinking of it as a window into a three-dimensional scene.

Also, begin learning some real human anatomy. You're copying habitual anime bizarreness here.

Well that was intended, stylistically, in the obvious cases...

Other than that, your frontal calling for breaking through a (say) mosaic-alike structure, into a tridimensional analytical general aproach, is very appreciated and something I've been struggling with for a while, indeed. Many thanks.

Well, anime IS stylized but it usually shows very solid structure (apart from certain pieces of anatomical weirdness that seem to be copied by every single anime artist.) You are copying the superficial style without using the structure.

    I see...

Ok, let me try to make the most from this; here is the groundwork for the works, both first scaned and "depurated" ones (or so I thought), together with the little few references I used for them. I know that you are telling me to start an entirely new aproaching (see my -neglected- sketchbook: I do understand) but, if you don't mind, I'm interested into your specific corrections about this sketches, to know exactly what went wrong on these works; the cat was based on a photography I don't have anymore; about the Asuka girl: I did intended to use those photos as models, but didn't like at all how was it coming and so decided to totally re-build her from imagination.

Other people's critics are very welcome as well, of course.

So you drew a dress that no one was wearing, and then just kinda drew legs and arms to the dress? The dress in the tambourine image does not look like the person is wearing it as it's not affected at all by the position of her legs or the tambourine.
And you took the hand holding a a phone and them removed the phone and made the hand hold something completely different in a completely different angle? Once again, the hand in the image is not holding what its shown to hold, which causes it to look doubly weird (as opposed to, say have Asuka hold a similar object). Also if the photos were that bad of quality, trying to directly copy the hand pose without understanding what's going on with the structure of the hand is not a good idea, something that I figure partially caused that emaciated noodly look.

If you really wanna know: it was meant to be an ambiguous gesture, indeed, wich could suggest either having just unbottoned and unlaced her blouse during a hot day, accidentally showing some cleavage (while being all by herself), or to be actually aproaching her hand to undress even more, in the middle of a sexy situation with an unseen companion she'd be staring at (like an invitation to jump on her, right there, over the resting place); i.e. it was for the picture to be read as either melancholic or erotic...

But it didn't come out as any of them, did it? along with all other errors to be found, I did carelessly left the fingers quite untouched from the photo and the message didn't compute at all.

About the other girl's dress: I have nothing to say, you're totally correct.

    Many thanks.
