    Mecha study group

OK this may be a stupid topic to make but... Oh well I am trying nonetheless.

So yeah, I would love to get awesome at this whole drawing mecha/robots thing and I was wondering if there were others with a similar ambition

I thought making a study group for this would motivate me (and others) more
We will be drawing awesome stuff such as PERSPECTIVE, MACHINES, GUNDAMS AND MORE MACHINES.
(oh and with mecha I mean in fact every thing that is some kind of machine, not created by nature. So that could be cars, phones, Gundams, tanks, planes, your washing machine, computers, every machine of your imagination etc)

Feel free to post here if you are interested!

That is great, Uncharted_Artist! Drawing everything is good, I think you definately should be doing that and are already on the right track in your sketchbook.

The idea of this group is to share studies and artworks (and maybe even resources) about mechanical things. It is fine to sometimes include other studies as long as they are connected to something related to mecha Of course practicing the "regular" studies is important too, but you could post those in your own sketchbook so that this topic is focused on the mecha stuff.
And of course, the main idea is to improve in drawing (and then especially in drawing the machines, cars, robots, cyborgs etc)

I hope I am making sense. xD
And yeah, I really need to learn perspective too.

anyway, I start off with sharing a study. I thought it also may be a good idea to set a theme for every... month (or a smaller period) to draw something :>
I will think about that Feel free to suggest all your ideas

Here is a car study, I drew it from a magazine about super cars. I sketched it with pencil and then inked it with a ballpoint pen.

Critique would be appreciated too, we are here to improve of course! xD

Also I think inspiration is very important too, so here is a song that I find inspirational for MECHAAAA

Hey Sushy, and thanks for the comment on the sketch book but im miles away from the goal, but thats why we are here. I agree we definitely should have a theme or topic of what we should draw for the week, i say week only because then we could probably bang some thing out half decent and with my job the weekend is when i get the most time to draw. So i say you know come up with a theme, ill let you pick first one np, then say monday we submit our concepts, critique and then pick the next theme. Let me know what you think of that idea.
I like that song you shared, thanks for that, i listen to a lot of music to get the juices going but not sure if i have anything that would be mech sort of style, but heres one of the songs i listen to before i draw to get me fired up, once the chorus hits in this song its on like kong lol.

Thanks for sharing, bogsbogsbogs! That robot arm looks really cool ^^

Yeah for the challenge... I was thinking of designing a robot head? Just a simple challenge to get into it xD It could be derived from a human face, or animal or just something you think up on your own.

How about making the deadline 18 December? Then you have some days to work on it

I hope you like the theme, I recommend to also share WIPs of it

Alright so you wanted to keep postin our WIP so here is what i banged out so far. I just finished watching the new rise of the planet of the apes or whatever its called and wanted to do some sort of ape bot lol, was trying too much to make it look like a chimp and wasnt getting anywhere and then i finally just got this started on the go. Perspective is wacked in parts of it but its super rough sketch atm.

@Uncharted_artist: A chimpbot? Nice idea I would suggest adding more detail but I guess that is the next stage

@Bogsbogsbogs: yeah join the fun And please share those slides, the first one was really nice

Here are some sketches I did to come up with an idea for a robot head... I think I will stick with the bird design.

Alright Alright, so i scrapped the chimp thing lol just wasnt feeling it, all in all i was almost ready to abort robots, i just couldnt nail anything, but i didnt give up!! and i pushed through and really came up with some thing with the one on the right. So i think im going to work on that one more, let me know what you guys think.

Nice sketches sushy i personally think you have some thing going on with the bird head on the bottom left corner. The hawk looking one.... Also kind of like the fox looking one thats right next to it looking down. Keep at her.

Um... How about 23 January 2012, then you have quite a while to make a nice illustration!

Quick summary: the challenge is due to 23 January 2012, topic is "Train of the future" and as long as it looks a bit like a train it is good for the challenge.
Feel free to enter everyone and post work in progress images (or other mecha studies) here
