This is an interesting topic. I approached this as if there were many more races in the galactic soviet union. This commander would be a very old, very intelligent humanoid alien. First sketches to explore the idea.

@Parsakoira - great work! almost looks completed.
@jPerols - nice expression and gesture
@Pixeltuner - good start. maybe try to get some more emotion into the character?

The Red Commander was a popular dancing bear in the Moscow Circus who volunteered for cosmonaut training. His technical aptitude and dancer's grace with a bear's commanding presence made him shoot through the ranks. Being responsible for the fate of the workers of the Earth and he's hitting the bottle hard.

Alright, I'm goofing off, but I read the subject and really wanted to draw a cosmonaut bear!

Went back to the drawing board. I didn't realize the character had to be human based on the brief. There are many good starts. It will be interesting to see where they go.
