I keep forgetting I can undo. I have just been erasing. That should make quick fixes a lot easier. Every post I'm getting more and more what you meant by pencil-ish.

I think you should do a 3/4 angle, Straight forward is hard enough, not need to make it harder on yourself. Remember that your eyes are in the middle of you head. Don't place nose or mouth before the eyes, eyes are what Determines where you nose and mouth will be.

Look at this for some guidance

Sorry to but into this thread but I think what your talking about is the epicanthic fold mostly found among eat asians mostly. If you look around online you can find info but better yet, Stephen Rogers Pecks anatomy book has stuff about this in either the eyes section or the section on differences of ethnic groups. I agree with you Sean about not hating but I think you should understand why people look different and what makes them look different.

The eye are at "half way" but they still aren't in the right place, if you looks at the picture, the eyes are a little below the half way mark, and his way above it, and way to big.

I'd hate to give myself an excuse but for the last 7 years or so, I have primarily only drawn anime related characters so all that time has defiantly given me some bad habits in terms of proportions. Trying to break them though =.

I never draw characters that I have seen before but I do try styles I have seen. The creepy, cartoonyness of Soul Eater is probably my favorite on eto draw so far lol. And thanks to this thread I am finally getting put on the right path to learning how to be more realistic. I should be posting my most up to date version tonight btw

Thanks for the suggestion. I due have more of an interest in being able to draw things I see as opposed to solely whats in my head. That way I can imagine things that could actually be real. I hope that made at least some sense =/

If it's what I think it is, there isn't really a reason to buy one... It's just a weight on a sting isn't it? If you want angles just tie the other end to a protractor

nice caricature, i like how you threw purple in there for the shadows, gives me some ideas my self. Here is an update on my Freeman, a little over 3 hours on it, starting to annoy me though so i may let it be for now and just do the others haha.

what texture brushes are you using in the paint overs, that's one of the things I'm having a hard time developing with anything i really paint. I've been messing with a few but not finding much i like.

thank ya kindly, for those. Also I'm surprised I'm missed that proportion problem with the Morgan photo, thanks for pointing them out, i knew something was off but i couldn't tell what from looking at it too much haha.

yea i understand that you mean where values merge by the edges. The problem i run into is that the texture tends to overtake the painting and i lose the forms i had, if that makes sense.

Then out of curiosity, could you show me some paint overs of my two attempts only using those default brushes and how to get more texture/ marks out of them? I'm asking because those were the only brushes i used for these 2 pieces give or take one or two, to attempt at more texture.

Put some work in. I had a really hard time getting the edges right. I have never realized how bad I am at getting the right type of brush.

yea sorry been feeling like ass haha. here is another mark and ill start on the rest later tonight. This one was annoying, a lot of her blends into the background or other values, but you can still pull out some subtle details in the face.
