Permission to find out shit on your own...

Hey CA gang...just wanted to say you're all free to figure out what works best for you in this big, crazy art world. The only thing I recommend is you figure out, again for yourself, who and what turns you on...then figure out why...figure out how they do it...where they came from...what they have in common...and how can you best follow in their footsteps.

    Carry on...

You mean I should follow the steps of a porn star?

I have some questions on the kind of shit we're supposed to find out, how big is it supposed to be and how should I approach it, is it better to walk towards it leading with your right foot or your left???

Seems like everybody is laughing at Jeff. But he makes a perfectly valid point, if I understand him correctly. It is indeed important to spend some time thinking about what you like in art and why you like it, and also to dig around in the history of art.

The point is that it's obviously good advice and, if you've ever had to deal with students/customer support clients/dA members, you know that almost nobody is going to follow it.

No, really, what paper should I use? I want to use the same paper as real artists.

I should probably take a moment just to elaborate on my OP, before confusion sets in. First, I'm not trying to set myself up as the one giving permission (of course)...let's get that straight. I was just using that as a humorous opening to make this point:

Art is an experiential thing. It is in the doing of it that many questions are answered and awareness is gained. Most of it is common sense, trial and error and simply paying attention to what has worked for others in the particular area of your own interest, and trying that out to see how it fits.

That's all...thanks for the fun replies so far! (and thanks blogmatix, but yeah, I think folks are taking it as intended and laughing with, not at...I hope!)

"Experimental" is the correct and appropriate way to spell that word Jeffy muh good man. Mustent (how the hell you spell that word anyway) be misunderstood now.

    Edit: mustn't, maybe?
