[Total Newbie] Painting only with grays

Hey guys. I love Art and pictures especially landscapes and vistas. When I see some amazing digital art with amazing environment at deviantart I get goosebumps Tho I never drew in my life. I dont have any painting background.
I am 21 atm and I really want to turn a new page in my life, and start doing the same art I enjoy watching.

Ok so I started drawing yesterday and I will do it as much as possible from now on. But I suck really hard. I cant use color at all. So i thought I should only use grays - black - white colors till I get some sense in perspective , image depth and the most important light - shadows. So from now on the next few months I will use only this few gray colors to do my paintings with. Do you think this is a good idea?

Definitely a good idea. Seeing as I can't draw for sour apples myself, I can't give any other advice, but I'm sure you'll get plenty here.

Yes, it is a good idea. In fact, it is a classical exercise for painters. Known as "pure value painting" sometimes.

Training in black and white gets you up to speed very quickly to understanding tonal values.

Some sketches I did with watersoluble graphite
