If the world's ending, there's no use worrying about it.

Also, what's with the apocalyptic fad these days; the rapture was just last month.

    The world isn't ending.

There's always been an apocalyptic fad, and it's always "imminent". It's never in 3 or 4 thousand years, it's always right around the corner.

    And it's always bullshit.

It's a fact that Native American rain dances worked 100% of the time. But only because they danced until it rained.

Say the world will end long enough and you just might be right. But it's just a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Yeah people have always obsessed over eschatology, and though i obviously dont believe in Nubiru or galactic alignments or whatever, these days we do have apocalyptically powerful weapons, a middle east fraught with conflict and a coming climate catastrophe. i mean, technically we're only a button push away from annihilation. itd be annoying if by dumb luck the mayan thing was on the money.

I allways thought this was just a fun joke to talk about. But then suddenly there were a bunch of people who took it extremely seriously and said "no of course it won't end" and actually seemed scared to believe in it. If I didn't feel like I had a lot of stuff to accomplish I probably wouldn't care either way. On the other hand, if you're gonna die, you might as well die at the same time as everybody else.

I'd been operating on the assumption that the world ended this past March (or was it May?). I should probably check in with my landlord, given this new information.

I hope Nibiru comes and the Annunaki come back and eat our brains or whatever it was they were supposed to do..

I've seen many a documentary about what's supposed to happen in 2012, and most of the time I just roll my eyes and think "Don't you people have something better to do?".

If we're gonna die, we're gonna die. What's the use in spending that much time on something of that scale?

A geomagnetic reversal is not out of the question. We're long overdue for one, not that the previous ones seems to have had any destructive effect on Earth. http://www.geomag.bgs.ac.uk/education/reversals.html#1

If you kill them they will have been right, can you live with that?

my idea of doomsday is if in about 40 years climate change makes all the ice in the north pole melt into the sea, and all the currents and weather patterns are fucked up so the rains fail, and the corals die and the amazon goes on fire destroying the planet's lungs, and all the crops fail and the fish run out, and food prices go through the roof, and millions of people die in famines or migrate, causing revolution and exascerbation of preexisting wars, oil is finished, and some petty territorial conflict flares up into local and then global nuclear holocaust. that would suck.
i hope it doesnt and we make it thruogh the bottleneck but we're not exactly helping ourselves.

makes you hope there is an illuminati conspiracy cos they will at least need to preserve some people as an industrial base, althugh that doesnt exactly sound fun either

its the cheer me down thread!

This is why paper books are more important than electronic ones. When the self destruction happens, knowledge will be the way to rebuild for the survivors. I hear cockroaches are full of nutrients.

I'd go one further, just to be on the safe side. We better start memorising books before global warming reaches F 451.

The book I'm going for means that you will have to refer to me from now on as 'The Subtle Knife'. Now, all I need is two beautiful women called 'Northern Lights' and 'Amber Spyglass' on each arm for company and I'm all set to face the apocalypse.

I used to be a far more enthusiastic debunker than I am now. I no longer bother. People by and large believe what they want to believe, and the True Believers WANT the word as we know it to end.

I am nowadays happy to let people freely compete for the Darwin Award, if that is what they want to do.
