hi all! feeling guilty about my lack of posting...
been so caught up with school that i havent had time!
design school is really killing me,
why do all the assignments deadlines come in the same week?!

some fun stuff, a collboration between 7 friends!
meant to be a sort of chinese legends and myth themed collab

a close up of the part which i did, the 1st from the right, lady white snake

and some quick doodles and sketches drawn while walking around singapore.

waiting at burgerking for everyone to arrive so we can start on our walk

here we go, mr ice cream man by the roadside

    and his motorbike

a stone dragon sculpture at a fountain

random old man resting outside macdonalds

more stuff up soon! thanks everyone for the encouraging comments!
really hope to get back into the momentum of keeping up in my sketchbk thread.

nice stuff you have going on here.

one thing, try to keep your drawings from observation clean, one line should be one line. lots of work. yup. but i know it can be done, your flamingo's are from life and those are clean as can be. so no worries

here's a school assignment for storyboarding class, screen sketching.
you're supposed to pick a movie and storyboard a sequence from it.
    i chose lilo and stitch.

    ----------------

in reply to the earlier comments,

hurricane: im glad you liked them! i'll take note of your comments, i do tend to draw arms longer than they should be..

misterjc: i tend to get all sketchy with a pen, oops, bad habit.
thanks for your comments! i will try to minimize my lines in future.. : )

MIKECORRIERO: thanks for stopping by! it really encourages me to work harder when i get nice comments : )

Malavon Despana: hey! thanks for your comments. i agree traditional stuff do have that authentic feel that digital doesnt have, but i dont really hve the luxury of money and time to paint more traditionally! would love to, though.

endregan: thanks! school is basically piling up all sorts of assignments on me! good thing it's nearing the end of the semester, i'm gonna have time of my own again.

HEROIC: im glad you like them! im really wanting to try alot more stuff than what i've been doing! perhaps this term break will be the chance for me to do so.

O D T: thanks odt! yup, i do have some non referenced digital paintings actually, you might find one of them way back in the thread. there's so many things that i'd want to experiment and play with but simply not enough time!

xia: your comment means more to me than you'll know! : ) thanks for your words of encouragement

Sok N. Wett: thanks! shall try to continue the studies as much as i can..

    hey yina

I know what you mean. Clouds are very difficult. It is all subtle tones and gradient like features. Its basically atmosphere and to make it realistic is a challenge but a fun painting nonethless.

Looks like you have figured out some secrets of the clouds. Dont forget to push some further away by making them softer edged!

    you are an excelent student

This thread started off great and kept on improving anyway!!!

I really admire all of the things you are taking on and putting the time into.. the disparity and range of subject matter is starting to feed all of your work... I would really like to see the abreviated and info packed style of drawing you use in studies from the birdpark and photoreferenced analog work start to work it's way into the digital work... Your digital stuff is so clean but still has issues with stronger line needs, a more immediate way of rendering would help and just a lil' bit of carefully plotted messyness or interplay between pictorial elements.

You could start by making a smaller batch of custom brushes that more fittingly play to the analog strenghths you posses, for instance; Something like a six pixel off-oval with some texture and pressure/tilt turned up makes a great pencil with the opacity set at 80 or so.

Some smudging tools would help your colors and your line work to attain a more hands on look. In PS, you could download a batch or make 'em, cuz they're a little weak, but the ones in painter are sweet. I don't know what you use more or over the other.

Great work, though, thanks for putting it all out there.

OMG that is so awesome, I really like this piece finish or not, you know how you can see images in clouds, what i'm seeing is a war between heaven and hell in heaven, and I can make out some warriors on horse and guys with swords swinging at each other. This is truly spectacular, more color pieces please!!!!

really really nice rendering style yina
there's nothing left but joining the "GO, YINA, GO!!" crowd

if I may crit something, (I hope this hasn't been said before), you are really strong at organic stuff, expecially the latest flamingoes are totally awesome. what I'd like to see, is more mechanical objects and stuff like chairs etc. pretty much everything of this type is sketchy and therefore a little twisted in perspective and proportions. it is possible though, that you do draw this kind of stuff well, but that you don't like to draw it. if that's the case, never mind my silly babble.
hope you can make any sense of this, my english is not the strongest..
    keep it up!

Hah! now here is the inspiration i was looking for. I can get a feel for how someone studies. BTW i wanted to thank you for posting on my thread. I dunno what to say i came in here to try and give some crits, but heh everythings right over my head. I like how suttle and soft your drawings are, Ive always liked that. I know how hard it can be. You have so much patience, anyways sense i cant give good crits (sorry bout that) I might as well just give you some good comments. I'm gonna keep an eye on this one.

gosh.. long time since my last update, i keep on tellin myself to draw and post more, but.... been feeling dry lately, cant get myself to sit down with pencil and paper to actually draw something out.. help! i feel like im really weak in stuff like concepts, environments etc.. my brain feels really uncreative and nothings coming out. its really demoralising and im totally unmotivated. even when i look at all the fantastic stuff all the ca.org ppl are producing! makes me think if im in the right field.. but hopefully things will get better when i start my sch term in 1 weeks time and get the momentum going..

heres some stuff from the sketchbk..

studies and rubbish (hey that rhymes!)

    ---

Masayasu : thank you soo much

circlelimit : wow, im honoured! cool to see another singaporean! muahaha!

    zao75231 : haha, thanks!

Wisdom_Cube : thanks for your long and thoughtful comment! lets all work hard together. : )

glikster : thanks! im glad you like my digital work.

dorian : thank you for your very nice comments too! you're right, i dont have a preference for mechanical stuff (neither do i draw them well) : ( i really do want to work on it! but somehow.. it never gets progressing eh. i'll keep your crits in mind!
