Hey man enjoying the improvement that is going on in this sketchbook! You're definitely on the right track and its nice to see you are applying studies. I'd recommend trying to focus the study application more for example like the bloodsports, plan a personal piece and choose your studies which help inform you when making it. This way you learn a lot more while you still get a solid piece possibly for portfolio. Although that's not always realistic to do it all the time and sometimes not as fun . Take it with a grain of salt.

Keep it up man much love will be watching.

    Currently looking for work!

I am absolutely in love with your coloring style. It seems to be the style that I have been trying to perfect for a life time. Well done! I must also say your muscular break down studies are astounding! I've similar ones, but the way you've gone about coloring them really helps the viewer (including yourself im sure) understand the dimensions and roles they play in the anatomy.

Dilated, hi thanks for stopping by.
Yeah i'm looking at you, among other goldenboys for inspiration on translating those fundaments to personal stuff.

I'm working on an unconventional mermaid illustration for my sister.
the catch is that it has to be ''rock n roll'' so im derping around with the concept of a mermaid getting inked
Below is an oil study for her mug.
and some color comps , i cant figure out the lighting.

I suck at oils, but it is too much fun.. im planning to do oils more often just for studies.

Learned alot about brush handeling and using a mahl stick for tight details.

That last painting would look extremely impressive with some harder edges and finer details. Heck it's already impressive now.

Grimtooth, thanks you, you overestimate my anatomical knowledge :o

can you see the shellywan influence? :o

done mostly without ref as you can see. got to learn composition. the intention was to have an x composition with a triangle. now the tail and 2 mermaids in center form a bermuda triangle of death :s

Nice work man, keep it up.
Maybe look at master still life or something else, oil works, that seem very realistic, but are actually a bit stylized, they don't simply copy what they see, they maybe change some color or compositional element a bit when painting.

heix33, Thats a valid point. I still have a bad habit of relying too much on ref.
Before i do something personal i always need to do some studies, that what im trying to change soon.

    By lumensart at 2012-04-05

Still cant nail the feeling of scale and admosphere.
I really have to do more environments. perspective is crap too :o
