ROUND #235: Deaf, Blind Acid Spitter

    topic:

ROUND#235 - Deaf, Blind Acid Spitter

It’s another round of randomly selected traits. This round we have a creature capable of spitting acid, but unable to see or hear. It’s simple enough. Think about reasons why the creature needs to spit acid (defense, hunting, excretion due to it’s acid-heavy diet etc.), and think about what it will need to function being both blind and deaf. Obviously one sense will have to take over most functions, and the sensory organ need not be an existing one. Make sure that the creature is visibly blind and deaf. Don’t, for example, include large ears or eyes as part of the design.

    Round Requirements:
    - The creature must be visible both blind and deaf

    - The creature must have some visible alternate means of sensory perception

    - The creature must have some sort of capability to spit an acidic solution out of some orifice. This capability should either be illustrated in the primary drawing or in a supplemental image.

    Deadline:

    November 9th, 9:00pm PST (GMT -8 )

    Finals go here: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=231256

Do tendrils that can feel things count for the sensory organ?

As long as it somehow transfers information about surroundings to the creature, it counts.

Hearing is a very difficult thing to avoid... for example insects can hear, even though they don't have developed ears. Think of spiders for example, all the hairs on their bodies oscillate from the vibrations around them. They're so attuned to this that they can feel the origin of vibrations (other smaller insects) around them. So can spiders hear you when you speak? Weird little alien insects!

I'm not exactly sure about legs or lack of them...
Universal reason isn't always fair but it has an amazing sense of humour.

    Cow

well here is my wip, im not sure im going to be able to finish it but i will try to make time, the concept is simple, the creature movement is pretty much like a toad, jumping, also it will have that toad bag filled with acid and with little holes to spit it when its time to hunt, the variation at the top right corner would be the creature right after using its acid, also as it doesnt have eyes or ears, its got a trunk so it can smell everything around it.

The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.

really great work in here so far. I'm digging
JAAP OOMEN: Crazy nice values so far. I like the update to the background, really helps. One crit- that tail seems to be flattening the image out for me. Maybe if the highlight on back fin wasn't soo harsh it would read better. Cant wait to see colors!

RawTwicket: nice inks thus far. One concern- looks like eye-stalks to me. Maybe it is some other sensory organ but I definitely think primitive snail-like eyes when I see your critter.

lkjhgfdsa: Great work as always. Loving the complimentary blending and texture in the middle of the creature. Nice texture overall. The leafy arm-looking things look a litte asymetrical, but that's all I got for you. Beautiful!

Santiago-Ibarra: Cool pattern and palette. Looks like the rending is coming along nicely, no crits yet, can't wait to see how it turns out

PuiArt: My vavorite so far! Certainly a little vague at this point, but there's a nice variety in texture and a really fun playful look. Looks like your having fun!

Gadbury: The mood and lighting really fit the topic. Makes me feel like i'm stumbling accross that monster on a moonless night! I love the shark-like head and the chin feelers.

bbwolf: I love how busy your design is ; very cool shapes

    see ya'll at the finals
