    Now 21 year old girl!
    ____________

    Hi!
I'm a 19 year old girl who's been lurking around here for a while so this is my first sketchbook online.
I wanna be one of those awesome fantasy-concept artist but i've failed miserably in all years, so all help are appreciated!

I've decided to both post my bad and good pictures and try to draw every day.

All are from life except for picture six.

i agree with erikr too but not studying 10 pus hours...i think the most important thing is to make it habit to draw everyday, then go from there.

i think you should join the Spartan Camp

You've a long way to go. I'd recommend working more and more from reference whenever at all possible. You're using pencils and assorted traditional media, so that's always a plus.

OK! That feels kind of strange cause I'm used to people saying "you gotta do your own style from imagnation" "If you cant draw from imagination you can't draw etc"
But drawing from life is fun so I got nothing to complain about hehe
Do you got any advice of any exercises to do?

Just to clarify on that - they tend to say that to people who've gotten all the realism down pat first Style will come during or after!

I don't know if I'm the right person to give advise, but I'll say it anyway.

The "contour line drawing" which I learned from "Drawing From the Right Side of the Brain" helps a lot in real life drawing. I don't know why, but it does (for me, at least).

I heard that people should master "realism" first before "stylise".
I don't get the argument though, because all art are derived from reality at some point. The only thing that matter it seems to me is how much realism is in a drawing.

What do you say about that I post everything I do? That may get a little bit boring but maybe I'll work more carefully on every drawing?

Thanks for the comments, it's awesome to get in here and see that someone has written!

I'll try now to draw realism so i will draw the proportions first. All critique and advice are welcome

Nice start. As I scroll down the page I can see your figures and hands becoming more fluid. Also drawing from imagination is fun but you should always be doing studies and practice from life. That's how we learn to make what we imagine believable. I don't know why people are always saying that drawing from life or reference is "cheating." That's just ridiculous. Nice lines and contours. I think you could use a little practice with rendering 3d shapes though as most of your work in this stage is coming across as rather flat.

Drawing on the right side of the brain is an excellent book. We used the techniques taught in that book in my highschool and college classes. For me they helped out immensely so I recommend it whenever I get the chance. You should definitely look into it.

So far your sketchbook shows me that you're working on practicing the right stuff. Drawing from life is usually best. You should post as much as you can. The more chances to get critiqued and show other artists your growing skill.

    meysha :

Right! I'll try to really master realism then > D

    Mcseemcher :
    Glad you liked it! ^^
Yep, i'm gonna post something more today!

    anewguy :
Hi! I'm a little bit afraid of your advice of looking in a book because I usually then get "stuck" and become afraid of doing the wrong thing (haha as usual) but i'll test to look at the contour.

    SuperKasey :

    WOHOO!
Yeah I kind of understand now why I haven't improved since I was 13 because I haven't been working from life and I havent been working with realism... But it's just to start now right away eh?

    MythrilWolf :
Thanks! I'll see if I can get hold of the book

All critique is welcome as always!
The faces on pic 5 and 6 are from imagination.

I kinda feel I have to work on my proportions in general :/

    An update!
I haven't drawn a lot for a while but here's the stuff I've made the last days.
As usual I'm posting every picture.

I'm thinking most of my pictures look unfinished. Maybe I should do more longtime studies?
