    Rachel Ralston's Sketchbook

My second try with a sketchbook. Thought I'd start off with a light hearted illustration. I'm working with learning vector line work, so I'm going to redo it in vector. Anatomy studies and such will be on it's way soon.

My goal is to update every day! Or as near to that as I can.

The sketchs from the last few days.

Truly terrible quality, and I apologize for that. I can't get my scanner to work right now. Hopefully I will improve this shortly

I'm working my way through Hogarth's 'Drawing Dynamic Hands' one page at a time.

Be sure to analyze what Hogarth is saying and do some of your own studies from observation and imagination, you'll get way more out of studying books from doing that than just copying the drawings.

Thanks for the comment Vertical. I'll make a mental note and really try to apply the lessons to things I see in real life.

Very nice studies - I agree with vertical, I'd love to see some life drawings on which you use the principles and structures you've learned from doing the Hogarth studies. Keep up the new sketchbook!

    Today is my birthday ^_^
I had a little down time and did this as a color study. Just trying to learn some new things with color. 20 minutes, self portrait.

    Webcomic-o-rama!

Try two: first time the images were too large.

Sketches from the first page of my first web comic. Woo!

I know that the anatomy is off in places, definitely not perfect, but at a certain point I had to stop fussing.

Will work toward learning more about cloth folding, arm and hand shape/anatomy.

Great stuff, I was especially struck by the portrait of the blackish/blue hair chica you have in your profile, very sensual, face and eyes have great seduction, very expressive. As mentioned above I would take time working on your art pieces. When you get time I would start playing around with still lifes, your perspective is quite solid so you have a great start also

    Leeloo

Working on digital painting. I think I almost understand the RGB color sliders to do a painting without using the brush opacity as a crutch. Screenshot of Mila Jovovich as Leeloo from the fifth element.

I currently have an internship as a concept artist with a detroit area video game company.

This is a turn around for one of the enemies I designed.

    Marty Mc-Mother-Fucking-Fly

There are those days when I wonder, what's the point? Why do I bother with this art bullshit? My hand won't listen to my brain and I suck at this shit and the world is falling apart.

And then, there are days like today. When shit comes out right.
