    jump cut

    Hi

I'm working on a short animation project , i think one scene has a jump cut in it but i'm not sure, its a scene of a guy passing out and there's a cut on action between the shots.
    Just wanted a second opinion...

link for the scene - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmlwUWBzwfw

I'm not even really sure what's going on in your animation, but if you're going to cut like that, at least leave the character on the same side of the screen. (jump) cutting to either a slightly wider shot or slightly closer shot. it seems like you're cutting to a side or 3/4 shot from a front shot, which isn't bad per se, but you want to leave the character on the same side of the screen. moving the character from screen right to screen left in one cut (as you've done) is more jarring than a jump cut.

Also the fact that the silhouette of the character doesn't change all that much yet the scale does makes for a very sudden jarring. Personally I don't think you even need this kind of cut, you're not gaining much from it apart from the slight angle on the fall. If you like the idea of the character looking at the camera as he puts his hand to his head and walks back then I would suggest a close up of his face, then a cut to the angled shot showing him step back and fall over.

Actually thats what i thought of doing , the problem is i dont have much time... what i'm gonna do is just keep the first shot as it is and let the guy fall on the ground without a cut

    Thanks
