    Smile Hobbnob's Sketchbook

Hey all, I need not explain what this is so I'll get started. I started drawing about 6-8 months ago now, and saw this site on a link on deviantart, saying that this was a great place to get critique and advice on improving. I've already had a quick look through the tutorials and plan on looking through them properly at some point, they look very comprehensive.

Enough of that though, art time!

I like the airplane drawing.. quick and simple shadows nicely show the forms right off the bat. I like that approach.

Judging by the smudged and multi-directional lines in both of these drawings, I would guess that you're spending a lot more time than you really should. I'd like to see you post some more recent drawings, just something quick and fun. The sketchier, the better

Yeah these are my most recent, and some of the few that I have done since I do spend a very long time on them, not so much on the plane but the portrait took just under 2 weeks lol

I shall try and make some quick sketches tomorrow, I'll have some free time since I'll be at college 'learning'

Last thing, thanks for the reply I appreciate you taking the time

Almost a year on and I'm still drawing, though nowhere near as much as I would like. I know more of the fundamentals than I did back when I started this thread.

Anyhow I'm in graphic design now, with ambitions to go into illustration once I'm good enough. Here's what I've done in the time I've been lurking instead of posting. . .

And here's what I do nowadays (I think, the attachment system here really isn't very helpful. . . anyway, feedback is more than welcome

Trying in vain to do anatomy, gonna have to spend a lot of time on this it seems, though I've managed to move my scanner to an accessible place so I'll be able to post here more often

Some sci fi bits, centered around some kind of pilot and his helmet (not that one you pervs)

All these are from imagination btw, no references for anything after the red speedpaint. Criticism welcome

Some more drawings. The pistol is from life and the rifle is a more fleshed out sketch of my current effort into the IDW:

Good start, you can draw well so that's a good thing. I think working on some basic construction would really help out you're drawings of people. Andrew Loomis' Figure drawing book is great for this, as is Michael Hamptons: Figure Drawing Design and Invention. Keep up the hard work!

Some practice with facial features, sniped from newsreaders (mouths were rather tricky since they never stop talking) and a digital life study of an apple that doesn't look right, any help appreciated

nice start but i think you shouldn't draw so many choppy lines in a row... clean lines will be better

Some more practice, can anyone give some tips as to whether I should be drawing individual facial features or whole faces in order to get the most out of my practice sessions? thanks

Finally got round to getting Andrew Loomis' face and hand drawing book, I quite like his method of contstruction

Here are my first studies, I'm doing them digitally since I don't feel I get enough time on the tablet.
