Renaissance Alien

The idea behind this image was to paint a portrait of an alien in a classical style... Vermeer, Van Eike or some other dutch master. Got the idea from new design press's 'Concept Design. It was our project for the UK CA group in the 'lounge : local Groups : Uk' forum.

awesome! a very interesting concept....I think I might have to draw an alien landsknecht now that you've infected me with the idea of 'renaissance aliens'

watch for chalky feeling lights....are they appropriate when and where you see them?

The idea is great, but I think the lighting doesn't do it justice. Rembrandt, Hals and the other Dutch Masters usually painted their subjects in very clear light.

The shadow on the left cheek and other areas wouldn't be there. Think about the qualities of light on different materials. The ruffe is made of white lace, and would have a more luminous quality, even in shadow.

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh.

No very fair. Lighting is something i need to work on. Thhe left cheek is a prime case of painting what I know to be there... not what one would see. Need to paint from life some more
