    CHoW#260 :: Fantasify yourself

    Character of the Week #259
    Fantasify yourself

-Design yourself as a fantasy character-

    DEADLINE: SUNDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2011, 9PM GMT+1
    Check your timezone!

Was thinking something totally different this time and the topic i came up with is "Fantasify yourself". Its a really open topic with fantasy themes as its main focus. Design yourself as a fantasy character, it can be almost any fantasy race but lets keep it to the traditional races such as orcs, elves, gnomes, ogres, etc. Keep a special eye for the design in whole, dont just make some fantasy character with your face but make the designt reflect the real you! Youll also need to think about the class of the character. It can be any of the traditional fantasy classes such as mage, rogue, warrior, paladin, etc.

    The Guidelines:
    • The theme is fantasy, so please keep to it!
    • Make the whole design reflect you, dont just paint your face on some fantasy character!
    • Also keep in mind the class of the character that reflects you the most, let it be a cleric, a mage or a rogue, its up to you!

    THE RULES
In addition to the brief, if you do not follow these rules, you will not be included in the poll.
    • Files must be named: CHoW#259_Username
(Files with any other names such as final.jpg or even chow259final.jpg will not be accepted)
    • Finals must be posted in the finals thread BEFORE the deadline
    • Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
    • At least 3/4 of the focus character must be visible
    • Final images must be accompanied with a basic character sheet in a separate image
Character sheets should at the very least show a sketch of the front and back of the character and a couple of early thumbnails/silhouettes.
    • Follow the brief!

I am all over this CHOW!

Quick question, though....is there a list somewhere of "traditional" classes and races? Are we talking D&D rules?

MAN did I find a bad time to think about joining in . I could probably be a bard if it wasn't for the fact that I am definitely not charismatic or talkative
... We'll see what comes out

Oh I'm ALL over this! My MMO nerdiness will be my victory! (for once.)
If anyone needs help thinking about class types check out Ragnarok Online. It has a massive number of job classes and it should still have a job class quiz you can try out to find a particular path (i.e. swordsman, mage, rouge etc.) that would fit you.

....... Looks like the CHoW number in the brief is wrong too >_> should be 260.

I think I'll be going for a gnome illusionist, or some kind of magic-using gnome. I'm only five feet tall, so it's definitely gnome, halfling or dwarf for me. Not burly, so that strikes dwarf off the list. As for class, I could take rogue I *suppose*, but something less physical is probably better.

All the choices! So much to plan and consider.

I'm actually very tempted to draw myself as a dwarf, just to see if I could make it convincing. I'm tall, lanky, and can't really grow facial hair, so it might make for an interesting challenge!

I just found a pretty awesome quiz if people are having trouble!
    http://www.wizards.com/dnd/class/index.asp

    I got a DRUID:

Secretive and enigmatic, druids call the wilderness their home. They are capable of running with a wolf pack, speaking with the most ancient trees, and watching thunderstorms from atop the clouds themselves. They regard challenges as tests, both of their fitness and of their connection with the wild places of the world. And though many druids project an outward calm, they have the cunning of the beast and the fury of the storm.
Whether you were born to the wilds or retreated from civilization, whether you chose your path or answered a call that whispered in your heart, you share a bond with the primal spirits of nature. You are neither their servant nor their master, but winds, trees, and beasts heed your words, for they recognize you as kin.
Call to the spirits, and they will entangle your foes or smite your enemies with the storm. Unleash your own spirit, and you will become the Primal Beast, uncaged and untamed.

    This is sooo awesome

    Thank you very much!

"Everything my god needs to say to you can be said with my weapon."
In secret temples far from bustling cities and priestly hierarchies, orders of esoteric warriors train their initiates in ancient traditions now forgotten or forbidden by most religious organizations. The champions of these orders are avengers—deadly weapons in the hands of their gods, imbued with divine power through secret rites of initiation. In battle, avengers swear to execute divine vengeance, entering a mental state that gives them unerring focus on a single enemy.

As an avenger, you were trained in a monastery, initiated through secret rites, and imbued with the power to smite your god's foes. You might be a disciple of Ioun, sworn to hunt and exterminate the minions of Vecna until you one day face the Maimed God. You could be an agent of the Raven Queen, bringing death to those who would defy your mistress. Or perhaps you serve Bahamut as an agent of justice, bringing ruin to tyrants and oppressors. The organizations devoted to your god might view you as a heretic or a hero, but you answer only to your god and to the vows you swore upon your initiation as an avenger.

Where will those vows lead you? One thing is certain: Doing the will of your god is never easy and never free of peril.

Haha amazing topic it is going to make me very self-conscious thought . I'm short and slightly muscly so it might be a dwarf for me, despite my lack of facial hair. Maybe a Halfling or actually i might go down the Goblin root!

So after CHOW 258 I swore to take a break from contests and focus on exploring some new mediums and getting experimental. Suffice to say I should not have read this CHOW.

I'm not exactly sure, so I thought I'd ask- would photomanipulation be ok or does it need to be a drawing. If I took a picture of myself and warped it to add fantasy elements would that be grounds for automatic disqualification? And if so, why?

If "fantasy" were real life, I'd definitely know what I'd become

And oh come on, as if none of you ever thought about what you'd be? If not, you must've never played D&D

Eee. The D&D fanatic in me went crazy when I saw this. Wasn't going to do Chow this week, but now its on.

Typically I play paladins, lords and big toughies, but alas I am not. The real me enjoys planning, plotting and comes well prepared with the proper equipment, so I chose a Woodland Trapsmith type character. What I lack in strength I make up for in a well executed plan..and bear traps.

    Quick sketch/thumb for today.

Edit: Fixed up those wonky legs a bit :X

Exploring a gnome alchemist version of myself. The face isn't my own, but it's similar, somewhat. I may make it closer to my own as I work on it, but I'm not sure if I want to make it identical.

~baxter I love the design. The face really stands out to me. Still, I'm not entirely comfortable with the length of his thighs.

I really preferred this test over the other one because it uses real-world scenarios to ask you. Whereas the other one says if youre in a battle with orcs, what would you do...well who the hell knows what theyd do if confronted by an army of orcs?

Anyway, I am a 2nd lvl druid and 1st lvl sorcerer neutral good human. Who the hell makes a character druid and sorcerer?? LOl. And why am I only 3rd level cmon!

I have no idea what a druid/sorcerer would even look like.

Khalo I would expect a gnome to have a much larger head. In your sketch, you are still 5.5 heads high like a normal human. I would expect a gnome to have much fewer heads like maybe 4 heads high or less. Of course, that is just is up to you.

Yeh, it seems like people are getting caught up with the specifics and intricacies of each class/sub-classes/multi-classes/etc. Some things on that list don't seem to fit the traditional fantasy critieria anyways, ie Ninja and Gunslinger.

Just go with a fantasy look/vibe that fits you and flesh it out from there I say.
