Using balls for drawing heads question

    Hello all : )

Just a quick question about something i have been getting confused of the last few days.

Ive been studying with the Andrew Loomis books the last few weeks. And he starts off drawing a ball like shape when drawing the head. He draws a 'equator' line right on the middle of the ball. So at this middle line there would be the brow line.

Now at some other resources instructors are drawing the brow line much lower in the ball shape. Is this just different ways of approaching it? I am a bit confused.

Here is one image of the loomis book, and one of Kevin Chen's teachings.

Check on yourself and/or maybe a couple of familiy/ friends to find where the brow line is.

Look closer! The brow line is relatively higher in Loomis because his sphere is larger in relation to the head. In the Kevin Chen diagram the diameter of the sphere is equal to the width of the head, but in Loomis the sphere is distinctly wider than the head, which is why the sides need to be sliced off.

If you check on yourself or another i think you should find the brow line is not at centre as seems to be shown in the Cheng images.

Sorry my mistake, K Cheng is correct and the same as Loomis. Loomis is showing brow line , Cheng is showing corner of the eye line with the thick black line (brow above at #1)

Lacking in the observation department is the cause of the problem for both myself and the OP
