an experiment on impressionism.
it was lots of fun but i need to go back to practice on realism.![]()
anyway. some more studies.
some digitals...the last one shows well how i go without refs.
that's it. i'm pretty much discouraged but i'm not going to give up. fair enough.
(The problem is, without the cleanliness of a scanner my traditionals look even more pathetic than they already use to do.)
Yay, update
The referenced digital one of your last post is pretty nice, I like how you rendered the skin,
with little pores and structure here and there...
I also like the first pencil sketch, you have a nice way to indicate the knees,
I really must learn that.
Color composition of post #32 is awesome! Shadows and highlights look a bit random though.
Don't forget to paint the wrists when painting from mind - they really help separate the hands
from the arm.
Don't be discouraged - just keep painting, drawing, practicing, and try to believe all those people
that promise "you will eventually see results". I know it can be very hard and frustrating, but I'm sure
in the end you'll be glad that you didn't give up
Kopf hoch![]()
thank you many times for your feedback, lyraina! :3
I have just a small update for today.
I've drawn a lot more through the days but I'll keep some files until laterr.

guuh i'm so slowly when drawing, really. i hope i get faster with the time but currently i'm a snail with a pencil. :p
like 40 poses
smudge tool!
Some concepts inspired by the amazing Min Yum.

i have focused on drawing a few more characters or people.
thats all for today i guess. *goes back to anatomy studies*

more humble sketches.^^
Screenshot study, will definitely do more of these

Hey, thanks for the comment on my sb. You have great figure learning so far. the figure render in post #33 is awesome. Look forward for more :d. Keep going.
don't fret about speed, that comes with experience. One thing you need to remember is that all those awesome artists that are on here, got to that level through sheer work ethic. Put in the hard yards and you will be up there with them![]()
Wow.. the screenie came out really well! =) Nice job on the costumed figures as well =)
hey ca. i want to work harder!
thebigchild293: thank you very much!
fireblade: thanks for the nice words, i'm noticing how i get faster with figure studies every time i practice.
kungfoowiz: many thanks, dude!
one very humble digital xD

Sadly I haven't started this SB when I started to SERIOUSLY draw.
So, sometimes when I'm down and doubting that I made enough progress I watch my older drawing. It's like one year and ~3 months passed since I have started to seriously draw.
These have been done around FEB/MAR '11 (I have done more but I think those 2 are enough):

And now my Sketches from the past few days.
At some days I can't draw because of work.
I'm not happy. I have an objective view on my art - always had - and so I know where I am and how much I still have to work.
But this is a part of my motivation.

Stuff from yesterday
photographed

Legs can be a pain to draw, so i needed to work harder on them. mostly male legs and a few female.
i post that for the documentation, they really doesnt look that bad in my real Sketchbook.I need a scanner. xD

Appreciate for checking out my sketchbook. I love the work you have here as well, My favorite is the screen shot study you did and sketch of the suit. Stick to it and remember, practice is the mother of all skill. Look forward to seeing your improvements.

Azure Swarm, thank you very much!![]()
Well I'm afraid I don't have too many new interesting things to post. xD Just some scribbles from head. I always need refs to feel secure, so I just used the chance of not having internet yesterday and scribbled some stuff.
Except for that one digital study, of course.

Thanks for stopping by my SB.
Looking promising here. Keep up with the studies, and sharpen your pencils!![]()

Very nice stuff! :3
@Rotor: Thanks, my pencil will always be sharpened and ready to draw all day long ;D
@Harbinger: Thanks a lot!
Well, I've only one small thing; it's actually a character design I was working on today which will be turned into a full illustration.
![]()
In this illustration I had the possibility to try out new learned things and also tighten them in my mind.
it was fun and i think I really got one step further here.
Now back to colour studies.
![]()
Hey, ca. ;D
Some colour studies.
Landscapes (10-20 mins) still lifes and an attempt of a selfportrait. xD
Fail values. Any tips about brushwork or values? Would be awesome
![]()
Hey, great studies so far. Just keep at them, they're the quickest way to awesomeness. Definitely try to get some traditional observation studies in there at some point. Specifically focus on shape and value control, right now things get a bit hectic, but you can definitely work through that.
Very nice! Your bodies are really good!
AHHH ... ich kenn dich doch von Animexx. Hab dich jetzt durch zufall hier gefunden.
Ich finde deine studien total interessant, mach weiter so!
Work hard~
Successful people continue to find ways, the failure of people continue to make excuses
Draw a lot and it will pay off. From photography, posemaniacs.com, real life...whatever you do brings you improvement.
For now, how about you pick one area to concentrate on instead of trying all different things ? You can do whatever you want, but I think concentrated work makes it easier.
First off, thank you for the kind words on my sketchbook. I thought I would come here and return the courtesy. Your rendering ability is really good, but keep going with those anatomy studies. Something about your figures is making them fall flat. I would recommend checking out some of Vilppus video tutorials on gesture and anatomy. Awesome stuff, keep posting.
CKLamb, thank you very much. Value control with the pencil is the hardest, but I look a lot on Algenpfleger's stuff to understand how to get good values with the pencil.
Kya Hill, thank you a lot!
LadyAtuna, was für'n zufall ;D Danke, ich werde nicht aufhören.
aolifour, i won't stop
shockowaffel, I draw lots from photography and posemaniacs; very rarely from head because that's the only way to understand anatomy.
and oh, you're so right on concentrated works..but..there's so damn much to learn D: I have no specification..I need a hell of a practice in EVERYTHING concerning drawing so I have no idea where to start, where to stay. I just practice what I feel like. >_>
Thanks for telling me though, i'm going to try to specificate more on the things i practice!
Metallurgist, you're welcome!I need to do still so many anatomy studies, it's really hard to get this stuff right...going to check out this videos, thanks so much for the advice
Glad you like my stuff!
Okay, so I'm really glad about so much feedback lately. thank you guys!
Sadly, only 2 portraits for today cause of my 6 hour shift of work i'd rather love to spend with drawing. xD
Value studies. 1st & 2nd one failed, i'm ok with the 3rd one, though. C:
I think I made the first one too dark so the contrast between the light "bar" and the rest of the face is too strong. also, the 2nd face somehow seems very flat. :/
Crits are highly appreciated!

this is a colourstudy inspired by algenpfleger...and i feel really ashamed for this! :/ however, frustration is part of the progress...
