I'm quite happy with how quick and efficient I was on this one. I think it took me about an hour and a half. I didn't get into details because I'm just focusing on getting the forms and colours right rather than rendering everything like crazy.

    Good Will Hunting screencap study.

Good stuff man, you've been really productive. The Good Will Hunting screencap lokos good although I would like to see more hard edges. Your watercolours look a lot better than mine haha.

I recently bought a watercolour brush. It's like the one James Gurney uses which you can see in this video. I highly recommend it for those who love to work in watercolours.

Lovely sketchbook! You have come a long way - particularly your cap from Good Will Hunting, really really good. I also particularly like your big horn sheep study but I am biased, being a huge fan of drawing animals too. You are sticking to the important parts though - life studies etc. Keep it up, I think you will go a long way.

Nice sketchbook you have going on. The is a clear improvement from the start compared with the work your are doing now. only thing that jumps out at me is that maybe you want to think about pushing your values a bit more. A bit of a lack of contrast between your darks and lights in your pencil drawings and seems to carry over a bit to your painting. maybe do more life studies and really try and push the lights and darks, not sure how many grades of lead your using but maybe mis it up a bit more and experiment with different mark making to get different effects. Anyway keep going hope you get where you want to be.

Some of your more recent studies have some nice things going with line and form, but you've really got to solidify them a little better - all your colours, no matter the medium, look really transparent and washed-out. Don't be afraid to go more opaque and, in something like watercolour where you're transparent regardless, don't be afraid to use bolder, darker colours, in larger areas. Are you using solid blocks of watercolour, or tube watercolours? Give the tube ones a shot if you haven't before; they let you get some much bolder colours. And I wouldn't recommend putting acrylics on paper - illustration board is fairly cheap, or even just random bits of cardboard.

Interesting style. I like the exploring of color, line and form. I guess, personally, I would say that there is too much "searching" going on. the "iffy"ness of the strokes, colors and forms. It expresses itself across the page quite dominantly. Sometimes that's distracting to the viewer. Have you ever tried blind contour sketches? Looking at the subject without removing the drawing/painting instrument... I think it will help give clarity to where strokes are uncertain-- overall, it just looks cleaner.

Sorry for rant. Bye!! Keep it up.

Gestures in black are from my imagination. The blue ones are studies from Mike Mattesi's force dynamic life drawing for animators. Rest of the stuff is imaginative sketches.

Sketch dump from today. Lots and lots of crap but still was fun to do.
Also, I haven't done any drawings in photoshop lately (only been using the wacom tablet for tv-paint and maya) so I decided to do something I use to hate - Digital gesture drawings. These came out quite nice in my opinion. 60 seconds each. Its nice to feel an improvement every once in a while.

    Thanks Kevin!

I decided to do some animation studies thanks to Matt Kohr from Ctrlpaint. These are from "Brave". Was much more difficult than I thought.
All the other sketches are from memory/imagination apart from the tractors.
