warburton Omg, you changed your name o.O Kinda confusing, but thank you so much for being with me
I really appreciate your constantly help and motivation *thumbs up*

Saturday night I got a little flash and started drawing/painting in many different mediums for 2 hours,
before meeting friends It's all from imagination haha. There was more stuff, but it isn't worth showing...

Copics & pencil 6B for sketch. Such soft pencils are awesome, have to use them more often
But I used the wrong paper for copics, so it wasn't possible to blend the colors together :/

    Nice sketchbook. Keep it up!

hey, nice sketchbook, you have a good eye one suggestion: maybe try to understand first (e.g. feet), take a look at the books like you did before(loomis, hogarth and so on).
afterwards draw from imagination. (lifedrawings are very good for learnnig but i prefer books.
i did a lot of those drawings from fashionmagazines too, but don´t think that i learned alot from them...

anyhow, you´re on the right track! just have fun!

Heya! Nice to see another artist just starting out. I started out just last week. Your goal is super-admirable and you're putting the work into it.

A wise old artist once told me "It takes 10,000 hours to achieve utter proficiency in anything." It looks like you're well on your way. ^^ I look forward to seeing what's new.

concerning the squirrel you should look into the book "the art of animal drawing" the author writes alot about abstraction of animals and so on.

Here you can see my work of the last week. Not much, sadly.

    13./18.05.2012:

First off, two "master studies". The originals are from people I adore. One here from CA and one from DA.
PxelSlayer draws women beautifully and I had to study one of his works :3 Rozefire you can find on deviant art.
Her colors are awesome. I choose this painting to study, because I don't now much about the anatomy of the human back.
So there you go ...I'm also trying to improve my shading skills...but pssst...

14.05.2012: Secondly some Loomis heads to warm up...
    Name: 2loomis.jpg

Then I worked on the female upper body using photo refs, concentrating on shading. Unfortunately you can't see much of it...damn my scanner...
    Name: 3photo_ref.jpg
Views: 189
Size: 101.1 KB

14./16./18.05.2012: All my imaginative stuff I have done in the last week. I think I see improvement anatomically wise. But the poses are stiff and I suck at faces. Back to study
    Name: 4imaginative.jpg

This one I really like. Is a photo study, but stylized...
    Name: 5nr2.jpg

And here's the progress. Took me about three hours I think...

Here is all I did yesterday

21.05.2012: First off I tried to produce simple one finished piece. I never do that. I'm afraid I assume. It isn't completely finished, but close...I'm working on it. One step at a time
    Name: 1flower.png

Size: 384.1 KB

Next I worked on my perspective skills...

Some random faces from mind, trying to get the hang of it...

    Eye studies from references...

Anatomical catastrophes...but my goal was to create interesting characters with fluid lines. Like the left one. Maybe I will work on her further...

Hey hey, good to see your still pushing through with your studies, some of your marks from the pencils are looking nice, keep it up.

2 things i would mention as a critique would be 1, Be wary of studying other peoples work. If your looking to understand their 'style' they can be helpful but don't become reliant upon them. People like pxelslayer, who is awesome and whos characters are shit hot are not masters. Hes just like you and me, except hes spent more time and effort working to get beter. The term master study comes from the old masters whos aim was to depict the world as realistically as possible, with no 'styles' as such. The idea is by studying a master you try to understand their thought process and brushstrokes and learn the fundermentals, rather than the style which comes much later.
Heres a good site for master paintings if your looking to study one - http://inspirationalartworks.blogspo...354f7beb81b23b

2nd, piece of advice is less long winded ;p Read and study Michael Hampton's book, figure drawing, from start to finish (or as far as you can). Be sure to read it as well as study it, it's really really helpful for learning about gestures, form anatomy etc etc. - http://www.4shared.com/office/SABIOc...ure_drawi.html (if you struggle with the link just search online for a pdf of the book, its prity easy to get hold off)

Sorry for the essay, ive been doing that alot recently -_-
    Keep up the great work.

    Fun with colors

warburton Hi my friend, thank you so much for your long and helpful comment in my sketchbook.
I'm struggling a lot lately. Sometimes I simply want to draw something fun, without worrying
about anatomy and such. Like the one below.
But you are totally right, I have to get into serious studies again. I'm only afraid, that someday I
have really good drawing skills, but now ideas and everything I draw will be boring. Do you know
what I mean? ... ah damn, stop worrying keep drawing. Thank you so much for being with me again.
You are a really big help. I checked that book out, looks really awesome. I will start with it today.
Are you through with it yet?

23.05.2012: Having fun with colors without worrying about the sucking anatomy and such... it was
nice to do something, simply because I liked it

wow it looks like you have improved even since you started posting! Keep it up! I love your gestures but I wish you would ramp up the contrast on them a bit so they didnt turn out so light!

Hey again Tamaira! I understand what you mean about the boring ideas thing, it can happen when all you do is study and you do no imagination stuff, your ideas become dull and boring (something i myself suffer from 0_o) I don't really know of a conclusive way to counter that, i think its something which is subjective to each person, after all, we all draw and paint differently, with our own ideas and theories, and each of us has things we like and dislike which affects what we draw. I guess the obvious answer would be to just draw and paint alot from your mind and try new ideas. I mean, the whole reason you study is to improve your mental library anyways, so just keep that in mind. That being said, i would'nt worry to much about it. Ultimately you want to hammer those fundermentals, and once you have those nailed, you can play around with ideas and styles and stuff. Kinda like the wire frame beneath a sculpture, without the backbone it all just falls apart and looks like shit. Excuse the random analogy ;p
As to the Hampton book, i hammered it to learn gesture and form, but i really need to do more of it. I still struggle like crazy with anatomy and poses -_-

I hope this helps and answers your questions, sorry if it didnt. Also bear in mind i'm still prity much a noob too, and i'm only telling you stuff from my own experiences, so if at any point you feel and wrong or talking bullshit, feel free to ignore my ramblings and try stuff your own way. After all, we all learn stuff our own unique ways.

Shiiiiiiiiiit ive gone and done it again lol. Please reply to this essay with lots of studys and show us your improvements. I want to see more!

    I'm back

Hello everyone, pls excuse the long lack of posts. I was still around but hadn't much time for personal studies,
so nothing to show here. Since begin of july I have an internship as concept artist at a small games company
here in germany. With new years eve it will end and maybe I can stay there as full-time artist. I hope so :3
Because of our NDA I can't show you anything work related atm :/ But here are some of my studies and exercises
of the last month. Not much unfortunately

iamkennstan Hi thx for dropping in and leaving these nice words I didn't do any gestures in the last months.
Seems it is time to start again.

warburton Thx for checking around again. I always appreciate your feedback

T-Eight Hi, vielen lieben dank.

    July...

Finally started a sketchbook. Both from imagination. Trying to use values much more

    October...

Since start of october I realised how less I improved in the last year so I decided to finally leave my comfort zone and study all the stuff I'm really bad at!
Drawing heads from imagination, because this is something I'm avoiding since many years. Trying to draw hard shadows and lots of values.

For five month this seems like nothing, but I wasn't used to draw 8 hours a day straight. So after work I simply fell asleep the first months^^ Now I'm trying to study regularly again. Hope I can show you my stuff I did at work soon =)

    Online Portfolio

Hi guys, a lot of great news this month. First of I'm finally allowed to show some of my stuff
I did during my internship in a small games company here in berlin, germany. And because
of that I was finally able to finish my online portfolio, which you can check out here.

So, here also the stuff I did during my internship. First of my process of creating a building.
From the initial concepts 'til the final building in all its stages
