The pain does not numb out, you start to see pain for what it really is.
Though in my opinion you can better watch the thought process in your mind than the actual pain.
As for another quote on this subject where stress can be replaced with pain:
When you see with discernment,
'All fabrications are stressful' —
you grow disenchanted with stress.
This is the path
to purity.

I recently finished reading Art & Fear (David Bayles & Ted Orland).
I loved reading this: "The place to learn about your materials is in the last use of your materials. The place to learn about your execution is in your execution. The best information about what you love is in your last contact with what you love. Put simply, your work is your guide: a complete comprehensive, limitless reference book on your work. There is no such other book, and it is yours alone. It functions this way for no one else. Your fingerprints are all over your work and you alone know how they got there. Your work tells you about your working methods, your discipline, your strengths and weaknesses, your habitual gestures, your willingness to embrace. The lessons you are meant to learn are in your work."

"Overthinking art, is like overthinking life. Take each situation as it comes; think & act accordingly. Never react. Act with purpose of mind and sureness of will. These are the precepts to living, and living, is an art."

Sun July 24th 2011 Advice for a young shy irish dancer- “if you don’t bow, if you don’t look out there and just give a wink, you break the connection. they need you, the crowd. they need to know that you feel them and you’re with them. and when it’s over, if they love you, and they’re cheering, they want to know that their gratitude has hit you and is moving through you…and that you’re giving it back to them, that you’re grateful in return. if you lose track of them, this whole thing doesn’t work. they need to SEE you SEEING them. they need to know they’re there. it’s a two way street. that’s why you bow. get it?”

You know why you cry when you're sad? Its one of the few human developments to do with the social aspect of life as opposed to the survival of the species, you cry when you are sad as signal to other humans that you need comforting. Interesting tit-bit![]()

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. "Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand." - Albert Einstein (I said a similar thing in a post in the Art Discussion forum section before I came across this quote, where imagination is a top-down approach to discovery, and science is bottom-up approach.)
"Bear in mind that the wonderful things you learn in your schools are the work of many generations. All this is put in your hands as your inheritance in order that you may receive it, honor it, add to it, and one day faithfully hand it on to your children." - Albert Einstein (I wrote a similar quote long ago: To progress, we now must take off where the wise have left off.)
