Layer = implies that most presumably whatever this thing is, its supports program based layers.

Vector Graphics & Sketch = It can do both Vector and Raster Style Art.

Not a Tablet = Depends on their definition of a tablet. Tablet could just mean an external Intuos/Bamboo Cintiq style tablet, or a full blown Tablet PC tablet, or even an Android/ios tablet.

On the go = Portability....although I do recall they used the whole "On the go" line of BS for the Cintiq 12wx. But given Wacom's obvious adoration of the Ipad, I hope its something along those lines.

?? notice how they mentioned Vector Graphics and Sketching....but not painting.

My best guess....its a Black and White or Greyscale e-reader type device....but probably more of a digital notepad. But that's probably its sole function, since giving it additional functions like web browsing would make it a tablet.

Its not an Ipad or anything running IOS mainly because Apple would never allow that.

And I don't think its Android either, since Wacom has made no effort to support Android in wake of all these N-trig tablets.

Most likely it will run a variation of the Bamboo dock applications.

i would be surprised if it was some kind of black and white ereader slash slate device because there is quite a few on amazon and they do not sell well. even here on this site no one really seems interested in these black and white devices. if they did any research at all beforehand they would see thats not what people want.

it will be some kind of non-screen tablet.

u can put on normal (real) sheets of paper, draw on them, and then what you've drawn gets saved automatically as vectors in the tablet-thing below.

A friend of mine has bought something like this years ago for 20 bucks in a cheapstore.

I think it's a digital pen of some kind. You draw on anything, post-it note, napkin then plug it into your computer and download the images. But for 170 euros? ouch!

If it's simply an ink pen that can store and transfer things drawn or written with it into a computer later then it's going to be both too expensive (£170 or €170) and fairly useless. For less than £1 I can buy a paper notebook and draw in it. I can then transfer these drawings into my computer in less than 1 minute using my flatbed scanner. I can't imagine such a pen recording pressure very much either, so the old fashioned pen or pencil has it beat there too.

If they had somehow come up with a wireless pen that could be used on any surface as if using a virtual tablet then I'd be excited...

Interesting. Not what I was hoping for, nor do I think I'll get it.....but I know alot of artists that will be very happy with this.

Might be even useful ... sketching storyboards and shootingboards. Will have to buy spare parts all the time from Wacom - I hope those ink cartridges won't pe too expensive.

I know I'm not thinking of all the potential, or whatever, but I don't really get why this would be terribly useful. Or so useful as to spend that much money on it.

But I probably wasn't going to be super thrilled with anything less than a new and improved, cheaper cintiq. Except a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver. Now that's something to get excited about.

I might still get one because it's Wacom, but another company already did this same trinket in 2009, I saw it @ Yodobashi in Akihabara(the clip tracks the pen blah blah blah, 1024 lvls though? Why?)
ID practitioners are known to do ballpoint/Micron/Sharpie on bond, so they'll lap it up. It's nice, but Cintiq 24HD please. Now. Right Now.

this pen kinda looks like a distraction for awhile. I think for now ill pass.

i wish i knew how far out the new 24 inch cintiq was. thats more interesting to me. At least i could see the price for it and find out if i would even see one in this lifetime. They cant keep up with stock as is so i dont see it any time soon.

I can see how it might be handy if you're not going to be around a scanner for a while but I'd want to be able to play with one first before I decide if it's worth dropping $200 for.
