    Critique on contest entry

I know the contest isnt over yet and it might be a bad idea posting this beforehand but i need help on this. The contest is to create a image based on scribbles which i posted below. I saw an energy ball releasing pulses so i came up with this. I need help fixing the energy ball and how to show an explosion. By the way it is a western town thats being destroyed.

I think you have a good start. Looks cool. If I was you, I would find reference of anything I could think of. Explosions, hurricanes, tornadoes..those pics of atomic explosions hitting houses...anything that will help.

visual references for you and more for the viewer, I can make out a couple houses and everything else is vague, you don't always need much info in a piece like this, with all the dust and debris, but a few more discernible silhouettes (maybe the flailing bodies of a few hapless bystanders) in the mix could really help. It looks like the energy ball is moving into the background away from the viewer along a straight path. Maybe some residual light from it still lingering in the foreground could help? Not much as you don't want to compete with the ball itself, but some to ephasize its' movement. Maybe more light on the houses/surroundings from the light of the ball to tie it in with the environment...
