I tried soft contacts in highschool but could never get used to them. Wonderful was the day when my eyesight stopped changing and I could get Lasik. Best decision I ever made!

I finished art finals yesterday and had a party with my roommates. I'm excited to get back to posting my stuff and doing a few projects before school starts up again. On a side note, (and maybe I should post this in the book thread but...) does anyone have rec's for artist autobiographies? Like along the lines of Norman Rockwell's. I'm always interested in reading about an artists life in their own words, but I don't seem to see autobiographies all that often. The other day I found a book of memoirs by Elizebeth vigee-le brun and it was a light read, but interesting to read about what she went through with the french revolution and all.

And for those who are interested in the juicy cases of art theft, I ran across this this morning:

The guy who copied the work seems to be all "I'm only sorry because I got caught."

I just had fillings put into my two in the top (the only time I've EVER gotten cavities was on those damn wisdom teeth, last year it was the two on the bottom) and the numbing agent finally wore off.

Yeah, I try to put all of my appointments within the same week. I just saw my physician yesterday, went to my optometrist the day before, and tomorrow I have to go to a radiologist to get my heart murmur looked at, because it's been 3 or so years since I first learned I had one.

Why is that gel they put on you before the ultrasound so damn COLD? Yeah, I was confused too the first time my doctor told me he had to take an ultrasound to check my heart.

Wait what? People were paying 4000 $ for THOSE drawings?

Even without the plagiarism, those pretty much suck.

And someome on my friend´s list totally follows another girl with images just like that, its not even a copy in style because all novice work looks the same. Any teenage kid who is just learning to draw and copies photos ends up with pretty much the same results,

I bought Jack Hamm's "Drawing Scenery" because I see Jeff recommending it constantly here. I'm usually pretty hesitant when it comes to buying art books, but holey moley this book is amazing. More than worth the six-odd dollars I paid for it on Amazon. If you guys don't own it already, get it.

...ANYWAY, anyone remember when Spike TV bought the license to "Married with Children" and went to town with it? They used to play it all the time! And now they never play it!

It sucks how licensing issues prevents the theme song from being on any home release of the show. You can only hear the Frank Sinatra theme when a tv channel plays it in syndication. They had to remove it for the DVDs, as well as Netflix.

Sony COULD have payed the fees to do it, but apparently the copyright holders were asking for too much.

I love Married With Children so much. I used to watch all the time with my dad when I was a kid. It's a great example of a show that can appeal to all ages, even if the humour tends to be a bit more on the adult side. Shame about them taking the Sinatra song out of the theme though.

I was in the airport yesterday and a guy caught me sketching people to pass the time. He very shyly complimented me, we chatted for a bit, and then he even more shyly asked if I could draw him. I told him that I might do it later when I finished the couple I was drawing. He fell asleep on the floor about five minutes later, so I spent an hour drawing him and then I had to wake him up because he almost missed his flight. He seemed to be pretty happy with the drawing, but that might just have been because he didn't waste hundreds of dollars on a plane ticket to sleep through boarding. It was the first time I've ever had someone compliment me when I was drawing in public, or ask to be drawn. Looks like I have to watch out who's sneaking up behind me now.

My dad's gotten into Ink Master lately, which is a reality show where a bunch of tattoo artists compete for prize money. I'm no professional, but that show makes me cringe at how poor these supposed masters are. I get they're under pressure with time constraints and probably not a lot of rest, but I don't understand how you can tattoo for ten years and still not know how to draw a hand.

They didn't they have a star wars episode, I was looking forward to that. After reading this..the disappointment has settled in

I'm guessing that the errors stem from lack of knowledge of both anatomy and perspective as applied to the freehand copying/interpretation of a ref image.

The figure's right breast would appear higher in the attempted perspective. But, it wouldn't end up imbedded in her arm pit.

Her neck is far enough left of center for a Siamese Twin head to fit on the other side. I'm thinking this comes from misinterpreting how much space the hair covers up near the right shoulder.

I'm guessing the overly shortened thalidomide-baby-upper-arm stems from goofing up the foreshortening.

The empty glove floppy fingers probably spring from an interpretation of a hard to see ref image complicated by lack of anatomical/structural knowledge.

In this position, there's generally a continuous contour where pectoral flesh "plugs into" the upper arm (above) and the outer line of the left breast droops somewhat from the pectoral line (below)-- the anatomical connection here just doesn't make sense.

Also: no hint of a ribcage or flank pad on the figure's left side.

There are other things. But, yeah, I don't think this person should actually be drawing on real people!

Alright, I watched a bit of Inkmasters.

Typical reality TV competition. A bunch of pretentious hacks. "Worlds best tattoo artists" don't make me fucking laugh. My own artist could clean their clocks.
Having said that, I love the show. I love anything with egos and putting your work out there (like Top Chef and The Apprentice)

Oh and throwing around the phrase "raw talent" you know you aint got no game!
