Impressive works man! The portrait studies are great... I like the way you use shadows to describe form.

Really digging the almost crystal like highlights atop this guys backrest in the front ortho. Keen to see the back shot fleshed out a little more as you keep working on it.

    Dear Lord,
That wheelchair throne is awesome. I love the anatomical studies of the legs, too. Your gallery is very extensive in terms of anatomy, backgrounds, and character design.

I just have to say, your art is inspiring. Reading your original post reminded me of my own motivations and challenges. It's a boost of encouragement to see an artist more advanced than myself who shares a common goal. (which is also what I love about this site in general)

Your environments are looking great, I especially like the ones of your dorm. It has the perfect amount of roughness, which I personally find more artistic, and appealing than anything over-polished.

I look forward to seeing your future works!

Good job on the wheelchair king. That represents a move up for you IMO.

Nice leg studies as well. There's a real danger in doing isolated studies of body parts; that danger is allowing yourself to think of drawing as part-based.

Drawing is wholistic... if you allow yourself to draw a drawing of a character, let's say, by first drawing a head, then a torso, then the limbs, etc, it will be a miracle for the whole thing to look right. Same with faces. Drawing first the eyes, then the hair, then the mouth, etc... it's going to come out looking jumbled more often than not.

To overcome that you have to keep "the whole thing" in your mind's eye when you put down lines. Even though, yes, you've already drawn the chest... keep a "connection" to it when drawing the arm... comparing it constantly against your new lines. This is what is meant by "keeping the whole" or not "losing the whole".

Your accuracy will skyrocket in both imagination drawing and ref drawing if you keep "the whole" in consideration always.

W.R.T. the leg studies... to overcome the part-based idea, try drawing some figures using your new leg knowledge to see how it fits with "the whole".

    Cheers.

Time for a very overdue update. I've been trying to art, but first few weeks of college is overwhelming. I keep getting lost on the way to the laundry or the mailbox..

@Blighted Thank you! I think you got one of my weaknesses spot on, I have a problem with backshots (whether characters, wheelchairs, etc) just because I don't draw them as much as front shots. I need to change my 'backs are boring' mindset and make backshots equally 'fleshed out'. Will work on this
    @Kungfoowiz Thanks as usual!!
@towy thanks and no prob, you have some very nice work in your sb. are you by any chance korean?
@zac Aww thanks I'm always awaiting updates on the Opey series as always..
    @Ludic thanks!
@takashmen Thank you! what do you mean by storyline/board? wait let me PM you about it
@ErikR Yep, I think I know (roughly) where I need to go (for now), I just have to put the time and work in. Thanks for the encouragement!)
@Dizzysun Your comment made me go back and check on the first post myself .. seems like yesterday and a year ago. xD Def. agree with you about this site... Thanks for reminding me about the long term goals.
@p_sage Wowow you commented on my sb Your explanation on parts vs the whole really struck me... I had never thought of it like that. Until I read this comment I was thinking 'oh I suck at legs lets draw lots and lots of just legs' etc... I see where that went wrong now (those leg studies haven't really been helping much and I was wondering why!) I (unfortunately) didn't see this comment until now, but I am definitely going to concentrate on the 'whole' concept. You have my deepest gratitude for breaking this to me. Thanks

Thanks jephyrx! I'm surprised to hear that there is life in my drawings People have historically told me how dead / stiff they look. YAY IMPROVEMENT! (And no that is not my self portrait! haha! well maybe self portrait of a part of my mind)

Midterms this week so not much time.... but I discovered charcoal today! love at first sight! and more acrylic practice

And what we're doing for painting class for the next 4 weeks or so... gradient swatches! how fun!

    Ahhh...swatches!

    pld:

The best part is when they're done! haha

For Painting I we had to do 14 different pages with 25 steps between 2 colors for each one.

I used too much clove oil and they took forever to dry...so I turned them in still wet. But they came back relatively intact and I'm looking at them now...so I'm glad to have them...but man it's a lot of work! So you know I feel your pain!

So are those Caravaggio studies? They're both looking good!

I found charcoal unweilding...took me a long time to stop making big black messes! Glad to hear you're taking to it!

I'm also glad to you're making progress with your figures. Yes...they seem naturally posed and loose limbed which gives them a sense of life and realism!

    Keep the good work coming!

    great rendering of skull!

    characters nice as always

    cake is in 3D?

"esp love the first, the meditation place concept"
me too, the rest was capturing some existing places

they were for subject called preliminary architectural design
the second long term task is to create composition with one repeatable architectural object like stairs, window, or column

the worst thing with typography composition are the rules that the teacher impose on us, it's hard to fit to him

i will paint them all, but when i will be sure that my level is enough to make sth amazing, now i have to focus on film frames, photo and life studies

"I def think enviros are one of your fortes"yeah and because of that i have to focus on anatomy and char design

    thanks for kind words
