    ROUND #222, the body part

    topic:

    ROUND#222, the body part

This weeks creature is going to a bit of a cheat on the rules. Well, one rule in particular the no humanoids rule.

To explain... imagine there is a virus spreading through the world that causes humans to lose various body parts that in turn mutate into independent lifeforms.

Now, choose a body part other than the torso (head, arm, hand, leg, or foot but also smaller parts like an eye, nose, ear, fingers, toes, etc.) And mutate that into a gruesome little creature.

    Requirements this week...

    - it must be recognizable as to what body part it mutated from, but remember, NO TORSO'S!

    - you must mutate it to a point that it is recognizable as an independent creature, meaning that it is able to move, and eat, etc.

That's it for requirements this week, get creative and don't be afraid to get a little humorous with this one.

    Deadline:

    July 27th 9:00pm PST (GMT -8 )

Are we limited to just one body part or can we combine more than one different parts together?

Interesting topic, will be fun to see how people take this.
Something to consider if random body parts are going to start getting moulded together is to remember what purpose those limbs were originally designed for. The human is designed the way it is for a purpose so making up wacky anatomy and sticking a pair of walking arms and hands with a head on top, although fun could end up unbelievable and I guess off topic.

When I read the brief heres what instantly strung to my mind. Be warned. This isnt for the weak hearted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TevQS...eature=related

You can use eyes as long as there is no torsos in your design

Well I'm pretty stumped for good ideas on this one.

I guess it's time to do some good old fashioned THINKING.

Just a few quick sketches in Painter to get the juices flowing Middle one is an "eye with a mouth with an eye inside whose tongue also has an eye" idea. Might go with something like that, cause it's just so wrong.

@artiphats: good start, I like the one in the middle the best, it has a fiercer look with those teeth and extra eyes

threw down some really quick sketches down on paper, you can see the basic idea, I'm liking 1 the best, and I realised how much 4 looked like a frog, lol. May keep refining the design, perhaps add some digits and maybe some eyeballs budding from the creature's neck and whatnot

    hahaha some cool stuff already.

also i think i worded things a bit confusing. you can use any body part except the torso

to those who mentioned "the thing" its really cool you picked up on that because thats what gave me the inspiration for this topic. just saw a couple of days ago that there was going to be a remake. but the original is awesome! everyone should see it if they haven't.

Yup, The Thing is quite a creepy movie.

Rob, that brain on top of the eye in #3 is genius. Love it.

Taiski, I think #1 would give me nightmares, I vote for that one #4 is hilarious, what if it released deadly gas? LOL. Your #3 and 5 share the direction of what I was thinking to do, I have the Eye Snail but your Skull Snail is cool too.

This might shape up to be a really epic round!

Hey I guess I could use even MORE clarification

Someone else asked but I never saw an answer; can a few parts be combined or...? I see some roughs here that are doing that like a hand with a brain and an eye attached. Since it is a viable creature, then it needs eyes to see and a mouth to eat. it may also need a brain to think, and legs to move. So I'm guessing yes, it needs multiple parts.

This could be pretty cool hehe.

Taiski: I like number 1 the best, it lookslike the mind of creature that will freak you out, then kill you while your freaking out. Try to think how you can make it look more like a creature than just a living brain and spine. Number 4 is def a cool idea as well, lol.

Artfix: Well (lark did say yes, so go nuts! These creatures break off of people then morph into living organisms, who says they can't morph with other body parts either?

Well seeing as there was a lack of eyes in the last round I'm gonna makeup for it this round, lol. Here's what I'm basically going to be working with, I'm liking the way this has turned out so far, like yeast this creature reproduces through budding, once the new individual is large enough it drops of and grows into a new creature. Just need to figure out how it will injest nutrients...

artiphats- Crazy beasts- i like the middle one the best too! So many eyes! lol
Taiski-I also like #1- it reminds me of something out a old fashioned horror movie!
Rob Powell- good start! maybe pull the curve of the neck even father towards the back, it kinda looks a little off balance right now like its about to fall forward onto its face, or eyeball hehe...

I wanted to try a upside-down skull creature, where the jaws are still the jaws of the creature... I also wanted to use the neck/spine a bit along its back- and maybe have a tongue still intact...
started with skull drawings and then drew ontop of em... really quick and sloppy still unsure where to take it...

artfix: yeah you can combine different parts. But I more envisioned it in a way where certain parts would mutate out from the original part. allowing it to live ( move, eat, etc.) Hope that explains it. Sorry if its vague.
