Here's my second entry to the CHOW challenge - The Guardian of the Stairway to Heaven. I choose to use the Haiku trail in Hawai, whitch is also known as "The Stairway to Heaven". In this perspective, my guardian is an old Hawaiian man and his mighty weapon is his stange walk stick that is magical. I would be really pleased to get critics because I know I have a lot to improve!

My first real environnement concept! I'll try to do a couple more. I'm not quite good in perspective

Here is a recent drawing I did with the theme "East Meets West":
I wanted to mix the beauty and the sofness of a japanesse geisha with a stereotyped blond american beauty, all through a comic style inspired. Don't be afraid to give critics!
This week, I tried to improve my capacities of doing landscapes. I did a couple of speed environnment painting. There they are![]()

Hey Ren, great start to the sketchbook. Keep us updated =]
Aweh dude! Loving your sketchbook here man, got so much variety! and dig the exploration you did of your spider character in one of the first posts- very proffesionalas for crit- in your environments, you clearly have a hell of an imagination but they seem a little flat- like, no clear definition between foreground, mid and the background. I haven't done any myself tbh but what I do know is that objects which are further away apppear lighter due to atmospheric pressure and the forground objects appear much darker, you can see it in this dude's speedpainting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el0wWiXIPtU. hope that helped man, thanks again for dropping by my sb- can't wait to see what you put out next

Hey Renart! Thanks for stepping at my SB!
I can see you have a lot of ideas going on over your head, really good for you! But you might want to focus a little bit more over the fundamentals at first. Don't stop doing things that you like! But try to spend some time doing the boring things like perspective, anatomy, still-life, studies from reference, If you do so, in no time, you will end up being amazingly good!. Cheers and thanks again mate!
I love those environment drawings! Especially the city ones. I like how the lines pull you into the focal point. I reckon some of the others could do with a focal point too. Also, some stronger contrast between light and dark.
nice start to your sketchbook. Right now it seems like you're sticking to safe angles- either front view or side view. Explore different perspectives of both figures and environments. It forces you to challenge yourself with perspective and can add a lot of mood to an image
Happy sketching
Uh! An other update of my matte painting test!

@V3T=> Thank you very much!! ^^" I'll try to update as much as I can
@ChrisTwaitees=> You're so right! I need to improve that aspect, the athmospheric perspective of something like that. Don't know the word for that, but that's mainly what I need to improve!
@herionz=> Thank you very much! I apreciate itI think I'm gonna do more studies!
@Rovanna=> Thank you! I'll try this for sure
@Rhubix=> You're right! I should definitle try this out!
Thank you very much!! It really encourages me!! I gotta go now, I've a lot of work beside me ^^"
Hey Renart thanks for dropping by! That black robot you did is really cool!
What type of animation are you doing?
Hi Ren
Great start to your sketchbook
As far as critiques go I would echo what some of the other folk have already said: Keep painting what you love but also spend sometime working on your fundamentals.
For you landscapes try this: 1) Paint from Refrence 2) Divided you image into 3 Sections Fore/Mid/Background. Each step should be lighter in value than the one before.
4) Keep you foreground and background softer than your Mid. 5) Keep your details to a minimum and only in the the Mid. 6) Use cooler colors in the background and warmer colors in the Mid 7) Use the biggest brush possible to start with and block in all the big shapes - keep it simple. 8) Make a MESS & have fun!
Each landscape is different but by following these steps you should quickly develope a better understanding of Amospheric Perspective and it will show in your paintings.
kind regards
Magicwax
Sadly, I've worked on the CHOW this week but something happens and finaly I was not able toenter the poll, but anyways here's what I did for the Royal Family Chow challenge this week. I went on for the Prom King of Diamond, trying a "disneyish" comic style, somthing I'm quite uncomfortable with! Feel free to comment everyone

First time I was trying out the Creature of the Week Challenge this week. I did this little one that I called the Elepino.
The Elepino is a little insectivore. It's living underground like a rabbit. It is really inoffensive. As it'S deffense, it has two couch of skin that are not glued togheter so those couch can swip. When it's attaqued, it's long tail swip over the body with the fur, living the body with just a primar couch of skin. That way, the predator is distracted and thinks it has the elepino while the creature run away.
I'm sorry if it's not understandable. English is not my first language so I'm having a hard time trying to explain my idea.![]()
Hey Renart, thanks for dropping by my sb. I really like the landscapes you are doing and the recent character/ animal stuff. As far as crits go, I would say try doing some value studies of objects with one or two light sources, just so you get a feel of how light falls across an object and then start applying that knowledge in your illustrations. I really like that you are constantly trying new things that you yourself admit you aren't comfortable with. Thats a great way to improve. Keep it up!
Thank you very much Pundt! I appreciate itI do need to study a lot of things, and I know the light is one of my biggest weakness. I'm trying to work on it ^^"
Here I go again with another rapid environnement I did today:

Those environments looks interesting. Don't want to sound stupid but is that style you aimed for or just not rendered enough? Well anyway I still like it.
Same environnement that I did before, but with a little more alive feeling! Again, it's a speed concept, just to establish a start of a mood.
