Zac's Sketchbook of Just a Tad Bit Strangeness

Hello Folks,
Conceptart is a community I've been wanting to engage in for quite some time now, as it's a site filled with a remarkable staple of styles and fine illustrations. Here's some of my sketches and pencil work (I've also got some of my comic art posted in the "It's Finished" section). I'd love to know your thoughts.

I think it might be a good idea to start using reference for your figures and doing some anatomy studies. On your last piece posted, for example, there are some major issues with the proportions of her torso/arms, and doing some anatomy studies and learning some basic guidelines would go a long way in fixing that! The hands are really lacking in form and are very flat, so they feel like an afterthought on the figure. You've got a pair of hands yourself, so use 'em for reference!

I like your linework and use of blacks, reminds me I need to work on that myself! The cartoon characters you draw are interesting. It would be nice to see more of those for a change, but your comic book women are great! Probably your interesting line style. I agree with the comment "it's quiet out there", haha.

Thank you so much for the critique. I often struggle with anatomy in many of my drawings. I've got a number of anatomy books that I study but I have difficulty retaining the info. I've been trying to come up with a sort of anatomy bootcamp, a regimen of anatomical studies that will discipline me into shape, but I haven't found any. If anybody has some suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Anyway, thank you so much for pointing me to Butkus's thread. I agree with your diagnosis. And I also really appreciate the comment. For a while there, I thought people weren't commenting because they thought my art wasn't worth it.

I know! I thought it was just me that noticed that! For a while there, I thought it was my deodorant.

I appreciate your kind words. I think my cartooning is stronger than my more realistic art but I do love drawing women so. I should work in more of that style.

By the way, I saw your gallery. As you can see by my gallery, it's pretty monochrome, so I admire your working in color. It adds so many extra dimensions to an art piece.

It's cartoon characters were you're in your element. Now about that anatomy, don't force it out of you, it's not something you can achive from one day to another. Draw when you're relaxed and look for sources of inspiration. i.e. other ppls sketchbooks might do the trick...

Otherwise, I like the level of detail in your work, shows you got patience.

Thanks for the critique. With regards to the anatomical studies, I'll keep your words in mind.

I've always had some proclivities toward cartooning. It's only relatively recently that I've tried to branch out into more realistic works. I've always admired people who can realistic art, or even art that has realistic qualities. Conceptart is full of them and, as such, is a feast for sore eyes.

I love your composition, and the expressions. It'd be nice if you shaded the people some more, not just the edges near the outlines. I second the color request =) Very nice sketchbook overall!

I would advice to work some more on hands anatomy - looks like you have some problems with drawing them.
