great work eightball! as far as a stylistic crit i would say too much glazing, or that glazing with low opacity in too many areas weakens the edges/lighting contrast, as different areas in different lighting will have different shape qualities. maybe you could try some enviros/pictures with just 100% pencil tool, also lasso tool paintings are a great way to learn using more graphic shapes.

insane lemur: thanks man, and yeah i guess i paint indirectly too much. gotta paint more opaquely, think about edges, shape, etc. note to self. thanks again!

wutangclam: thanks man. it depends where you are from. i guess i am lucky i live in the los angeles area where there are plenty of film and animation studios. check the job sections of studio websites or email to inquire if they offer internships. apply everywhere. it is difficult and tricky but well worth it.

    PNate: thanks pnate!

    anr_102: thanks man, but i don't think i have talent. i just don't have a life

that miyazaki studie its so awesome, and the colors make you feel the depth of the background, i really like most of your landscapes man really really awesome, keep on going, and im being really nitpicky here but in that last quick figures you posted i could see some of them that had a straight action line, that you drew the figure on top of, try and be a bit more dynamic with the action lines because they really push the feel of the pose and that is very important, awesome drawings over all really good job C:!

Gee that's some extreme perspective there. I like the textured environments on the previous page and the life drawing on this one.

Hey EB, thanks for your feedback, very concise and honest which i respect. I feel your line drawings are seemingly more advanced that the paintings. I Don't think that's because of lack of painting ability, just a shift in mentality. Your line work is obviously a process that takes patience and precision. But as soon as you start "speedpainting" everything becomes rushed. I found that the slower my hand moves the faster the painting seems to. think twice act once. Also check the angle and depth of those ellipses at the top of the page on the jungle temple piece. Keep working hard buddy!

OMFG those lines are awesome! and i really like your compositions, your speedpaintings look really good when zoomed out, which is def the key to good painting
I especially like all of your art with architecture and scifi!

I think Chris Sanders is right, working slower is faster and it will look more organized but still painterly
I think it would help you if you focused on the basic forms a little more, like with mountains pay attention to the planes (they are kind of like pyramids but with a varying amount of sides, random edges and concaves)
And with tree leaves it's really tempting to scribble and dab paint because leaves seem chaotic (and they actually are pretty chaotic) but it looks better if you pay attention to painting the masses of leaves as if they were warped spheres/ blobs
Here's a link to a painting by Kazuo Oga that i think show my point well
    http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma...25fo1_1280.jpg
It's really like a bunch of spheres with randomized edges and he uses very few strokes/ works fast since people only see them as bg's for like 2 seconds when they are in movies.
If you want a more painterly or organic look you can still scribble and dab but with keep those spherical shapes in mind

Well that's my advice, anyway but you can do whatever you want cause it's your art! and you're great anyway

    Black Spot: thanks buddy!

Chris Sanders: thanks man, you're absolutely right! gotta paint slower and put more thoughts behind each stroke.

Caleb-Brown: thanks caleb! yeah i need to think in planes and painting the masses as spheres more. gotta master foliage simplification since there's also lots of light play involving transparency and opaqueness. i should never forget the planes though. that oga piece is a perfect example--man i wanna do a study of it! that miyazaki stuff shows me how little i know. thanks again!

Man, I love them thick pencil-strokes. I sort of want to see what you'll do with, like, an hour long pencil-illustration-type-thing.
The gouache-y feel of your paintings is pretty refreshing. Only critique is that you might want to watch out for too muddy values.
    I don't know.

Toffers: thanks man! the figure drawing sessions i go to don't do anything longer than 15 min (which i think is a good thing) but 1 hour renderings would also be cool.
