Loving this sketchbook! Very good color handling. I think you definetly understand what art should be. I just feast my eyes on these environment pieces. I loke some looseness of those. Though I'd like to see more of stand alone pieces with some sort of plot and more character work. And I wanna see more of a design in those, that would be interesting. I think all you need to do is think a bit more of these worlds and the characters and what they could look like.
Engor: thanks man! but i definitely don't know what art is haha. glad you like it though.

nice studies, good work ethic. I would recommend you attempt drawing from imagination, immediately after doing one or two of these studies, to see if you can apply anything from what you have just done. I find this helps to come up with theories about what made the original look the way it did, and helps make these thoughts stick.
You have a really solid foundation here.
You are using perspective well in your enviro paintings, though I think you might want to think more about focal points in these, as they are rendered pretty evenly instead of letting some areas recede etc, also using value more to stage your compositions might help - you have a solid base
your architectural sketches are really nice too - good perspective/form, etc and not over-done, I like those.
I saw your sb a while ago, you definitely have improved![]()
hey man thnx for visiting my sb very nice works in here and great improvement happening love your enviros and your color choices
Inspiring sketches! I especially like your life drawings![]()
Excellent sketchbook man. From page five it really cranked up! You are nailing the life drawings, architecture, vehicles and environments. I really love the perspective you got on the mech in post 106. The buildings in 211 are really solid and I love the finish to the environments in 321, very crisp! Keep it up. I'd like to see what you'd do in the weekly challenges, you should give them a go. Have you done any longer pieces? 10 hrs + something really polished and shiny, could be awesome.
catface: thanks man! i always found drawing from imagination helps a bunch.
Wholewheat_keyboard: thanks man, i'll keep those in mind!
dimi: thanks dimi!
Prospass: thanks man, love your stuff!
Dayle: yeah i'd love to do the weekly challenges, but i'm lazy haha. i'd love to do a 10 hr piece though, we'll see how that goes. glad you like all the different subject matter

I am really digging your work, especially your environments. If your intent is to become a video-game environmental concept artist I have a couple tips for you.
1. Clarity is really the most important thing. Environmental layout problems are usually solved separately from color studies. Many of my favorite environmental concept artists rarely touch color in their professional work. Google Toph Gorham, Virginia Critchfield, Justin Albers, and Paul Richards (NSFW).
2. Always have a camera in mind when you are doing environment work. If the idea is that it would go into a video-game, draw for the in-game camera.
For Science- Sketchbook!
ForScience: thanks man, that makes a lot of sense! i feel i design a lot better when i don't have to worry about color. paul richards is awesome and you're right, he rarely touches color. thanks for the camera tip too!

cool spaceships but watch those ellipses haha!
I met Paul Richards at life drawing a few times but was so shy that I only said a few words to him. His figure drawings are really amazing though.
I used to work with Paul at Vigil. If you see him at life drawing you really should say hi. That guy is just oozing with figure drawing insight and he loves to teach.
For Science- Sketchbook!
lookin good man! Its been a long while since I've been in. I'd suggest buckling down and doing some very rigorous perspective studies, your eyeballed stuff gets a bit wonky, especially in the interiors. Cheers!
Your work is improving nicely mate. Its good to see you drawing. Your greatest focus should be in drawing and values, but always thinking about a workflow and adjusting things according to the way you need to work. You will find the right balance, but overally let the color be last. Love the gouache stuff, these kind of studies with this material are really good to force you to think before pushing a brushtroke, its very important. Keep up the good work![]()
CheckBiomechawolf
skMOP: thanks, i'll be more careful! i also met paul richards at a marshall vandruff workshop but i didn't know who he was at the time. haha fail!
ForScience: his blog is awesome!
Metal Fingers: thanks man, yeah i need to get right in there and tighten that shit up. thanks again!
kingkostas: thanks kostas, i'll keep all of those in mind.

i like your last post fast color paintings! very good for color management. Also concepts are nice but at this you somehow lose the colors. You have to do something. Other then that good stuff![]()
